How McFar out or in , should one begin?

Cannelure an go in, or find the jam an come back out ?

i dont want to be testing .010 .015 , D you think that having a variety, say have some closer to the rifling and a middle batch and a cannelure batch to get an idea if its going to prefer in closer, somewhere, or out farther?

162 sst 7 rem mag.

my max COAL is 85.1mm say with the prjie touching. , so ive loaded some 84mm , an the first rounds were back near cannelure a fair bit. 83mm or so.

Recently saw on Berger’s site.
Find length to contact lands. Load shorter in .02 increments starting at .01.
3 shot groups with jump of .01, .03, .05, .07.
One group should be more accurate.

Didn’t work for me, my best group was 3 inches. Need to try different bullets and/or powder.
But it’s hunting season, so using my tried and true rifle and load.

1mm is about 40 thou. Isn't that a bit much of a change? I'd be aiming for 10 thou (or less) seating depth increments, around 0.2mm if my brain is working right today....

there seems to be no real spot, apart from really close like above as per berger, or cannelure on some projies for coal that is short on any gun, to magazine length being longer than throats, so much goin on, so i figure,,, out of those examples, one will show more potential than the other? an if that isnt enough then playing with the 10 thou from there either way works?

i just got so many variable responses on this lol. one gun likes this other doesnt, etc.

im not jammin no bullet tho, im a huntin an swingin cartridges in an out often

yeh so my max is 85mm, i loaded 84.5 84 and 83 for see whats goin on, i looked at a graph that showed pressure dropes dramatically the further out to a degree, then rises again. it was in the ballpark of 3mm out it lowers substaintially, maybe even more, an then shorter again an pressure builds up.

i have a feeling that using this 2213 could get same speeds with lower charges using that longer seating charge

i will report back if i note anyhing.
