I recently bought a Remington 700 BDL Left Hand and with it i bought a bushnell 4200 scope. The BDL has open sights and i do not want to loose the use of them when i put the scope on the rifle. My problem is finding a retailer who is selling the leupold see thruogh style of scope rings and matching bases that are left handed. Does anybody know where i could get some of these(or an equivalent set up)?

Here is a link to what i am talking about:

Thank you

By going to a see through mount, the result will be a scope mounted far too high to allow for a proper cheek position on the stock while using the scope.See through mounts are also usually much weaker than a properly mounted lower set of mounts.

But if you insist on mounting your scope so that you can't use it to it's potential, you might consider the mounts below.

Well, lets eat noobsausage for a minuite. What is so bad about see through rings? Not only do i keep the use of my open sights for up close game but I also have the luxury of a scope when i need it. Are they low quality or not strong enough?

I never under stand why guys feel they need two sets of sights? when a deer comes walking out which sights are you going to use? If you go to those sights then thats all you need. Its like buying a car with options you'll never use, so why spend the $$.

As noted, the biggest problem is height. The scope needs to be mounted higher, which results in poor cheek weld.

A better option is just use a scope and keep it on LOW magnification.

See through mounts look TERRIBLE in my opinion, and you will be a noobsausage. :D

As has already been mentioned, see through mounts place the scope far too high for a proper cheek position on the stock. Not to mention that a person used to shooting with scopes can aim even more quickly with a low powered scope than with iron sights, even at close range. Why do you suppose that competitors in timed competitions use optical sights when the rules allow them?

How powerful is the scope that you plan to mount? I usually use a 2-7, and on 2 power there is plenty of field of view even for very close shots. ...and I hunt often in pretty close cover. 2xpower allows you to see enough of an big game animal to place the shot (i.e. not just seeing all brown) right down to 10 yards or so.

What calibre? What type of hunting?

That's a LOT of scope for a hunting rifle. You won't use anything over 10x in 99.9% of hunting situations.

If you need 24X, you shouldn't be taking the shot.

The rifle is a 300 RUM. I bought it and the mega zoom scope for a combo hunting/long distance(approx 400-500m or more if i can find the space) rifle. For most of the hunting i have done the game(bear) is approx 200-400m away. However there have been a few times when one appears from thin air and is a little too close for the scope i have.

I have owned two 300 ultramags myself and both wore 3x10x42 scopes which are more than adequate for shots on big game to 500 m.I have taken pronghorn at nearly 500 yards with the same scopes on my 7mmstws and never desired more magnification.
And with a rifle with the recoil of a 300ultramag,see through mounts are going to be even more of a reliability issue, than on a gun with lesser recoil.Mount the scope as low as possible in very strong mounts.See through mounts are either very heavy,or not overly sturdy because the scope is so high above the action.

Sometimes, hunting means not shooting everything you see.

Honestly stick to one or the other. Only other option would be some of the mega expensive removeable scope mounts so that you can choose one or the other in the field. Still doesn't help you with the surprise up close game though
