Just had a great 3 gun match here in Nanaimo. Only issue was seeing the hits on a 12 inch gongs at 200 yds with a 223. I know that MGM make a great system but pricey. Anyone have a system that they have tried and it works ?
Thanks in advance
Rob

Some things that help:
- lighter (ideally 3/8") steel plate
- "flasher" style target design, where the plate hangs on a pivot, and a large fluorescent sheet becomes visible when the plate hits and pivots.

Are you talking about seeing the hits as the shooter or RO?
At the matches I've been to, hits on distant steel are usually called either by the RO or a dedicated "spotter" using binos or a spotting scope....

Man, I was 2 seconds from taking first on that stage. Super fun though...definitely need more long range rifle in our 3gun matches. I couldn't really see those plates moving either. We were using a spotter in our squad though...I hope you guys were too! I could hear the ding with electronic ear pro but of course there is a time delay.

Piezoelectric sensor hooked up to trigger a camera flash. Caldwell makes a cheap pre built solution that can be found on amazon.

Lol
I can tell you we are not using that device on Sunday. We have however used it on a golf ball launcher and it worked like a dream.

Still one more this year... Sep 24... Hey? Heeey?

We use square plates hung from one corner by a single chain. There's lots of movement that's easy to see.

That's what we do except we hang them from strips of old conveyor belt instead of chains so there is no risk of a shooter hitting a chain and us having to go downrange and reattach a target. We have the MGM flash target and it works well but is costly. We also have the Caldwell piezoelectric one but found it unreliable (wire gets damaged by projectiles/splash - we solved this issue by using steel conduit for the wire but it was a pita to set up).

We've also hung old bowling pins by nylon straps...the nylon straps can take many hits before failing and the pins jump around pretty good when shot making the hits easier to call. They make small targets at 200m though so I usually keep them at 75 or 100.

Paracord works pretty well too.

At the Quigley and some other events they use a radio behind the steel and the RO has a radio, gets a good hit sound on the firing line.
