Can anyone recomend a binocular or small spotting scope that will allow me to see 5.56 bullet holes clearly at 100 yards?

I use mostly red dot sights with no magnification.

I bought a slightly used Bushnell spotting scope (20-60X x 50) off EBAY for US$20.00 and I have no problems seeing .22LR holes at 100 meters.

This is the cheapo Bushnell and made of plastic, including the lenses I think.

I have a 5-15X scope, I have a real hard time seeing them with anything less than 12X. In fact i would use my 5-15 scope to see 7mm bullet holes as I couldn't see them with my 10X so go for something with at least 15X but I think 20 would be better.

Thanks for the sugestions but I was looking for something smaller than a 20-60x spotting scope.

Maybe someone that has a good set of 10x binoculars, can you see 5.56 holes at 100 yards with 10x binos? or a monocular?

number of years ago at an offhand Schuetzen match, I could not tell if I'd shot a double on a 200yd target with a 15-45x B&L Elite, so, I shot one more, cost me 25pts, I'd shot a double (.30 cal). Took the target with me to the store, set up everything they had there--ended up buying a Kowa 20-60x 77mm after looking at that target at 200yds pasted to the frt post of a Cdn Tire store. If you are going to spend the money on a spotting scope, you only need to buy it once--get at least a 70mm lens. Then you never have to worry about it again.

The spotting scope (Simmons) is about the size of binoculars with a small tripod. Easily fits into my gun bag...I originally used bino's but found it too shaky...

Shoot n See or similar targets are great, but the bucks add up quick over an afternoon of shooting. Doesn't take too many packages of them before you've used up enough dollars that you could have purchased a reasonable spotting scope.

If you have binos with a tripod screw then a small flexible legged tripod works ok off a bench. I used a little one I found at Future Shop in the bargain bin, but the Gorillapod looks interesting and would probably work well also if space is at a premium. Binos off sandbags can work, but that method is too fiddly for me.

But as others have said, a spotting scope really is best. Even the inexpensive Bushnell/Costco unit I have works well enough to see .17 holes at 150yd, which makes for much less walking (and eyestrain) during a shooting session.
