About a year ago I bought my first AR, a Ruger AR 556. I've really had fun shooting it, and it's about time for me to upgrade the sights. I have astigmatism in my dominate eye, so I've mostly ruled out red dot sights and I think I've decided on an entry level scope (Primary Arms 1-6) to put on my entry level rifle.

Can anyone offer any suggestions / tips for the rings / bases to mount this scope on a rifle with a fixed front sight? Keeping with the entry level rifle and scope concept, I'd like to keep the cost to "middle of the road". What height should I be looking at? Is a price range of $80ish to $150ish realistic to get something "decent", but not worth more than my rifle lol? Just wondering what you might suggest... thanks!

Burris pepr mount is good. With magnified optic won't see the front sight. If you want something a little higher end the vortex precision or American defense mounts are good.

I have three or four of the quick detach PEPR and they are great, never had to give more than a click or two to re-zero after removal and re-installation (usually no clicks). As solid as any other for a lot less money.

I use ADM (american defense manufacturing) mounts. they have never steered me wrong, and the publish all their measurements online, so if you want a specific height/spacing, you can find it readily.

My M&P Sport II has a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 in a Burris P.E.P.R QR mount and is very solid, seems to stay zeroed mounting and dismounting. I also suffer from astigmatism and went with a magnified optic with a diopter adjustment and it has worked out very well.

The Burris P.E.P.R. is a bit heavier than most of the higher end mounts but like you I didn't want to spend more than @$150.
