Seeking AR Knowledge for first AR

I understand this might have been over done in this thread. Kinda already know what I like. But like most it becomes a price point issue. I seem to have a eye for the Troy Defence PAR (non pump version), but seem to fall short in finding one in canada new. The hand guard and but stock are what I prefer. I'm awear it is an AR reguardless and can build it the way I see fit. But not looking to build. Caliber seeking would be 308 first choice or 556 NATO. Budget in around 1300-1500.
 
If you want to build get an aero lower for 100 bucks and if you don't want to mess around with timing get an enhanced upper so the handguard just bolts on. You would be
100 lower
200 enhanced upper
100 lpk
60-80 buffer assembly
120-160 if you want quantum handguard more for enhanced or get regular upper and Troy handguard of choice
180 bcg
Budget 90 for a stock
180 for a barrel
40 for gas block
20 for gas tube
Sight/optic of choice

They also offer a build kit for 308 and parts but it will increase the budget significantly.

Saskatoon gun works has lots of stuff. Maybe not a the moment but I hear another shipment next month. You could piece one together with forum sponsors. Building is not necessarily cheaper but it can be done. Buying and changing a few parts is an option too. Depends on what quality you want in the end
 
Not looking to build, but not a fan of crap. Have no problem changing out a few parts down the road. Perhaps after a while of owning one I would consider a custom build. Appreciate the info tho sir.

So what are you looking for? A non pump version of the Troy Pump Action Rifle? That doesn't exist. Or are you just looking for an AR that has some of the same parts as the PAR?
 
I'd recommend going on the EE and looking there if something catches your eye. It's a buyers market when it comes to AR's...considering you're looking at .308 calibre perhaps you might want to wait and check out the NEA102 (in case it gets NR status).
 
You can buy any decent brand AR and just install Troy furniture if that is what you like. Easy to do, I have the troy hand guard on my Stag AR and the installation was not hard. "Building" the AR from scratch is a bit more difficult - changing furniture is easy.

What are the decent brands exactually. Just sold my Barrett MRAD looking to get into the AR scene. Just lost with the amount of them. Dont like to buy half assed rifles. But not looking to go nutz just yet.
 
That Troy is selling at a good price because it is on Special.
The US market is beginning to take a dive.
With exchange that rifle is $1700 Canadian.

Many rifles purchased from a Canadian company may have come in at a higher exchange rate.
That difference will increase as it goes from importer to retailer.

I don't think you will find a comparable .308 in Canada for that price even though it is above your budget.
I bet id you wait a while you will be able to get a nice Daniel Defense AR-15 for around your price range if the prices in the US start to drop and our dollar remains the same or strengthens.

If you are not aware AR-10 style rifle parts are not all interchangeable like AR-15's.
There are 2 types. Armalite and DPMS style and different manufacturers go different routes.

Daniel defense, bcm, colt usa, colt canada, lmt, knights armament(this one would be expensive), H&k(another very expensive option), pws, oberland arms, haenel cr223.
 
I got an m&p10 for 1360 (pre-tax) from bullseyelondon when they had a 15% off s&w sale. I guess ar10s are just not very popular in canada. It is very interesting that it has a fully ambi lower with tension screws, so zero wiggle between lower and upper. I am pretty impressed with the finish given the modest price (lol compare that to DD's $$$$ DD5V1).
