Well kids, yesterday was one of my most exciting days shopping for guns.

No doubt many have seen this pic of my great uncle before, but the whole story surrounds it so here it is again.
Leif1945Muley.jpg

Last week my Dad was ploughing up the field where this picture was taken. For the last 60 plus years my great grandparents homestead has been all but gone with the new yard to the south side of it.

Anyway, Dad churned up a mess of schutff which will do very nasty things to tractor tires. Out He and Mom go to pick it all up. Mostly nails and scrap metal, a prospectors pick axe and an old hatchet head. Best of all they found three spent rifle cases, one being a 25 Remington from the gun Leif holds in the picture!:) Up until now no one knew what caliber the rifle was.

Leif's rifle was passed to Mom's cousin when he died, who in turn sold it at some point down the road.:bangHead: I had always hoped to find another but not in just any caliber, but the same as Leif had. I never expected to find it out.

With the turning up of this old case, I started searching all over the continent looking for info regarding the rifle as well as a rifle itself.
It didn't look too good as from what I have found the 25 is quite rare.

Turns out I may have found one tho, thanks to a friend in Grande Prairie.

I am looking for any info you have about them.

Brass was discontinued in the fifties so that will be interesting. It looks like a rimless blown out 25-35 case with a case volume half way between the 25-35 and a 250 savage. They were said to be designed for use with pointed bullets too, any input on that?

How do they shoot? Feed? Overall experiences are appreciated, good or bad.

Plus if you have a brass source as well as dies please let me know.

Thanks for your input!;)

There is a set of hornady dies on fleabay right now.30 rem brass is still available so just neck it down.Mine shoots good but the pointed bullet option sucks. Most are to long to feed into the tube.Just load it the same as a 25-35.

Have you ever used it on game RR?
If the rifle does turn out to be a 25 I will be hoarding brass like a mad man.
Where do you find your brass?

How does your rifle handle and shoot?

It's too bad Leif's gun has been lost but to be able to hunt with the same gun as he used rates very high on the cool factor for me.

Now His 41 Swiss, that might be one not so easily found!

Thanks for the tip guys.

Just targets and rocks so far.I'll try for a mulie doe one of these years.
Where do you find your brass?

I got Doug Raynor to bring some 30 rem in for me.I use it for 25,30 and 32 rem.

How does your rifle handle and shoot?
These rifles are so slick and well made compared to 7600s.

I have a 14 in 35 rem as well.Then there is the 14 1/2 series, all I have is the 44-40 . I haven't found the 38-40 yet.

I will keep an eye out for your 38-40 Rich.

If I get my Muley Doe draw it will for sure be going on that trip too.
I'm getting ahead of myself tho, seeings as they are only 99% sure it is in fact a 25 they have.

Thanks for the input Rich and CanAm!
