G’day,
Recently acquired the a/n rifle and trying to decipher some markings.
It appears to be converted from a BSA SMLE, as the butt socket is stamped GR surmounted by the Crown, BSA Co, and though scrubbed dates appear to read 1911, with Sht 22 over IV.
My question is, on the Nock’s Form it is stamped PH in large case, and on close inspection it appears the barrel has been sleeved.
I am aware early on SMLEs were converted to 22 trainers being “parkerifled” and stamped such on the muzzle, but can not find a reference for the PH, though I understand Parker Hale also did later conversions to 22.
Insight would be appreciated.
Cheers.
