I have given to me a carl zeiss jena ddr in zf 6x42 scope from a old friend of mine with serial number 279098 . My curiosity got the better of me when were they made where in east or west germany .................. how much are the worth............... there are ring marks on it ............... it has the thick german post and the lens are absolutely prestine ............... a very interesting scope any info would be appreciated

DDR = German Democratic Republic = East Germany.

If there are ring marks then presumably it does not have a rail which is a good thing over here - it is "probably" a 26mm diameter tube rather than 1 inch. If it isn't a rail mount then it should have a standard windage turret on the side and elevation turret on the top. All good. A scope such as this retailed about $200 in the late '80's and are pretty good quality. They are likely not nitrogen purged (at least the rail mt versions of this scope were not) .... The Zeiss Jena operation stopped production under that name and it looks like it got picked up by the "Docter Optics" company which increased price significantly without changing the scope quality as far as I could see. Not sure Docter Optics are still around fwiw

I have the same scope DDR 6X42 ,but mine came with a BRNO combo rail wich made it worth while getting to fitt on my 22hornet/12ga. I am really impressed, but mine has elevation adj. only while the rail has the windage adj. built into it! Scope is 26mm tubed, great find you have there!cheers daleZ!
