Hi everyone, right now I have a Ruger SP101 .357 with the hogue grip, and a Beretta 92FS Inox.
In no particular order, I'm considering one of the following as my next handgun:
1) Glock 17 Gen 4
Pros: Modern legendary classic, current issue to UK, Austrian armed forces (amongst others), 3 magazines
Cons: Tried a friend's before, same calibre as the 92FS, can only be converted to .22 (last I checked)
2) Glock 21 Gen 4
Pros: .45ACP, new calibre, Gen 3 version was subject to that famous torture test, manageable recoil.
Cons: Expensive (at current prices), ammo costs more.
3) Glock 22 Gen 4
Pros: .40S&W, new calibre, widely issued amongst LEOs (cool factor), convertible to 9mm, .357SIG, .22LR, and Glock 22 magazines hold about 13 rounds of 9mm. Ammo isn't much more than 9mm.
Cons: Not many I can think of...Glock kabooms, .40S&W becoming obsolete maybe?
4) S&W Model 66-8
Pros: Good ergonomics for me (will sell SP101 if this suits me better), Smith & Wesson fit and finish
Cons: Kinda pricey, internal lock, shoots the same ammo as SP101
5) CanAm Norinco 1911 special (500 rounds of PMC .45)
Pros: Norinco, meaning excellent value with the 500 rounds of .45ACP, very durable, reliable and reasonably accurate (from what I've read), bonus hipster appeal (American classic ironically made in China
).
Cons: Norinco finish, potential 1911 feeding/ejection issues, less pride in ownership perhaps.
Other factors influencing my decision, is whether I should have as many different ammo types as possible, or standardize on one semi-auto and one revolver cartridge. Staying with 9mm and .357/.38SPL means I don't need to buy larger bore brushes, but variety in ammo types means I won't be stuck without ammo during a calibre-specific shortage.
Your thoughts?
