Hi All,

I just picked up a gen2 Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39. I'm looking for recommendations for a decent scope for 100 yards. I don't want to spend a ton of money but I don't want junk either. The gun will only be used on the range. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

For the money, a Burris Fullfield 2 will fill all your requirements and provide you with a good quality scope. Other than that, a used Leupold would be my second choice, with cost as a primary consideration. Power range really depends on your eyesight. I find I need more magnification these days. - dan

I’d recommend a Vortex Diamondback tactical 4-16x42 if you can find one under $500.

Bought mine years ago. Been on everything from my 30-06 ton presently my 10/22. Nice lighting smaller FFP scope pretty decent glass and tracking. Turrets could feel better but otherwise a solid choice I find.

I definitely have and have seen far better scopes. But this lower cost Vortex never really leaves me wanting. That being said I definitely am not a scope snob.

The Burris Fullfield is a good scope, but the Fullfield model is discontinued. It might still be possible to find some of these available, but not for long.

Check out the EE for a good used scope.
3-9x40mm should suite you fine.

Like others have said, can’t go wrong with a Burris for the price.
Just so happens I have a like new Burris Fullfield 4 2.5-10 available if you’d be interested..? Perfect magnification match for that calibre - shooting distances up to 150ish yards.

Shameless and unsolicited plug.

I could hit 2-3 MOA at 175-yds with a 3-9x40, but I can get ca 1-MOA with a 20x. As I said, depends on how accurate you WANT to be.

Honestly for a 7.63x39 I would look at something like a Vortex 3x strike fire or something along that line. You would be surprised at the 100 yard accuracy you can get with 3x and it would be so nice and compact.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. Gunna go with either a Crossfire II or a Burris Fullfield IV.
Fullfield IV is discontinued, the new designation is Fullfield E1. Basically the same scope as the Fullfield IV.

There's also a new model line called simply "Fullfield" which is a new model line and much changed from the earlier FullfieldXX models. See the differences here: https://www.burrisoptics.com/ click on the link, then click menu (3 horizontal lines) in top left corner, then click hunting scopes

I originally got a vortex diamondback 4-16x42, as suggested by gun shop, I'm new to target shooting. I thought the scope was fine but over time I found I was getting a bit frustrated with the eye box, after lot's of research I ended up checking out the Arken sh4j gen 2 at a local shop. It felt much easier to get in the right position for the eye box so I purchased it . Been using it for 2 months now every weekend and it's great, I'm shooting at 50-200 yards, a big improvement in my opinion over the vortex diamondback.
