My father recently passed and I have come into possession of his Winchester 94 30-30. He did not hunt but had the rifle since he was a teen, and it has not been used much. I have found that the loading gate seems to stick and not allow the feeding of cartridges, but if you wiggle the lever down a hair, it seems to release. I am nowhere close to being knowledgeable about this type of firearm and do not want to try to fix it in my own. If anyone knows of a good gunsmith in Ontario that can fix and maybe also do some basic maintenance and cleaning up of the gun, please let me know. I am in about 1.5 hours north of Toronto but would be willing to ship it to whomever to have it worked on. Thanks in advance.

With a proper fitting screwdriver, try and tighten the screw that holds it in place... if it has loosened slightly that may correct the problem.

But what you describe sounds like a problem with feeding cam on the lever... best adjusted by someoneknowledgeable.

guntech is on it as mentioned if you have a screwdriver that fits the loading gate screw loosen it off ever so slight then from the inside of the open action place your finger on the back of the loading gate pressing it against the frame then slightly tighten the screw remove finger and snug screw
if that does not work on to the next step and for that you will need someone with knowledge of the 94 it could possibly be fixed with minor fitting if not then you will need a new part to be fitted finding a new part will be next to impossible sometimes a used part could be fitted to your gun because they ware differently
this was one of the parts that did ware on a 94

That screw just barely catches the thread.
The loading gate is kinda shaped like a leaf spring and you need to apply a fair amount of pressure to it ( kinda flatten it out) for the screw to grab the threads,

Here’s a couple of pictures .

For me, it was the most difficult screw to install.
