Selecting low/mid priced AR for 3 Gun

If you go 3 gun, there are out of the box comp guns out there for this specific format, such as stag arms 3G and STI. Theses comp guns usually come with SS Barrels that are no heavier than medium contoured barrels, comp style free floating handguards, some form of compensators and sometimes match triggers. They usually use rifle gas system or mid length at the very least.

If you care to be competitive, you probably won't want to buy a colt carbine or dd carbine that runs on carbine gas system. You will want to pick a gun with a longer gas system with much softer recoil.

^^^ Good advice from greentips. If you KNOW 3 gun is your game you might as well buy one done up for it. I second the advice on mid-length or rifle length gas system. Coming from a guy who cut his teeth on a FN C1, the difference in recoil doesn't feel like much, but my speed and scores improved considerably when I went from carbine to mid-length.

There was a heck of a Colt Competition at Crimson Trace last week! Gorgeous trigger and no movement whatsoever.

That is some nice looking hardware!

And as pmt mentioned, the non-expert/pro models have a Colt Competition trigger. While I've never tried the a 3.5 lb Geissele, the Colt trigger seems pretty decent. A crisp 6 lb.

Great thread! I was about to pull the trigger on a m4v7 untill I destroyed the lower unit on my boat. Now I have time to shop around untill I can afford it again lol. I will definitely be looking at 3gun specific rifles now.

bah i got a m4 le6920 that im decking out for 3 gun. Personally i just wanted a rifle that i dont need to baby and that goes bang every single time, rough clean, brush, patch, oil, voila go!
got a timney that i like, got a noveske nsr that i like, got a magpul str that i like, and a compensator that i think will do great and a spare bcg in case it breaks down for some unknown reason.

I'll see how i do during some run and shoot courses and how i do in some matches next year.

As everyone said, stick to ''the'' brands and evaluate your needs. For my part, bought a DPMS Oracle, slapped on a samson rail, pws fcs 556 and the optic, it is fine for me. Remember that optics can get a good chunk of money also.

Thank you for all the great ideas and suggestions!! I've decided to go with a Stag 3G. Seems like it offers solid value given what I'm looking for.

I hope this thread has been of assistance to anyone else looking for an out of the box 3 gun rifle.
