Sell me a .22 (i mean the model, not an actual firearm)

I've been in the market for a while, and I keep buying anything BUT a .22

What I'm looking for is something that's bulletproof and accurate like a ruger mk III stainless hunter, but I really don't like the grip angle. Accuracy needs to be good as I'd like to use it for metallic silhouette.

Not looking for a revolver at the moment. I'd like the ability to mount a red dot on top easily.
I'd also like to stay away from polymer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Am I stuck with the ruger?
 
Ruger 22/45 stainless. Grip is a bit thin for big hands, easy change on models with replaceable panels. Buckmark URX slab side, also good, has better grip.

One I can't recommend...sadly.. is a Colt 1911-22(Manufactured by Walther).

I've tried 10 different types/kinds/velocities of ammo, and I get FTF on all of them. Not a lot, but at least 1 in every 2 mags.

I got it in the hopes that a Colt design licensed and built by Walther 1911 frame would be reliable and a valuable cheap training firearm. But the FTF is ruining the experience, and I've shelved the gun till I can find some other ammo to try in it.

Try a 9mm. I just got the IWI Jericho(baby desert eagle II) in 9mm. Same price as a "good" .22. I got mine from Bulls Eye London(They're on of the sponsors). Great people there.
 
Smith & Wesson Model 41 or 46, You can even get it with a 7 inch barrel for the metallic silhouette. Its all steel, very accurate, and has a very natural grip angle.
 
If you can afford it and can find one, get a CZ Kadet. Or a S&W Model 41.

Otherwise, best bang for buck is either Ruger MK3 22/45 or Browning Buckmark, as others have said. These are good choices for mounting a red dot as both don't have fully moving slides.

Unless you have lots of good quality high-velocity ammo, most other semi-auto pistols in 22cal will frustrate you as they struggle to cycle the action properly.

If already have a 1911... You could also look for a conversion kit from Marvel.
 
If the poly frame of the 22/45 puts you off then swing on by the Browning counter and look at the Buckmark models. For many folks the Buckmark fits the hands really nicely. Particularly those models with the UDX grips.

The S&W 41 is a superb gun. But the price of them is more than some toy budgets can stand. If that doesn't scare you off though you're getting a match level gun that can also double for fast action based events.

A low cost but unsung hero that never seems to get any loving is the S&W 22a. Those I've shot were reliable and accurate enough and those I know that own them have nothing but good things to say about them. I'd have gone that route myself but I ended up with the older S&W 422 and 2206 to fill my rimfire needs.
 
A Colt Cadet or maybe called a Colt .22 ( which I thought that you were talking about.) There might be one on the EE now in fact.

I don't like a Ruger .22 - they are so closed in - but a Beretta 70 71 72 or a Bernadelli - or the Colt above is a more open topped and reliable than others.
 
For the money, I don't think there is a better value than a Browning Buckmark. It has a better factory trigger than my Ruger and there is a very easy Hagus Flip mod to lighten the trigger pull on the Buckmark. I have an after market accurising kit in my Ruger and it shoots awesome. Either of these guns will be a great shooter. I see many S&W model 41 at the club and many have frequent hickups. Nice gun but too pricey and finicky for me.

Hmm. I like the buckmark, but i don't like the way it breaks down for cleaning :(

I wish ruger made a 22/45 with a stainless frame.
 
you could look at the really old beat up Berettas that Wanstalls is selling for $500 :onCrack:. A genuine prohib one is on the EE for half the price and in way better condition.
 
Like BCRider mentioned above, the S&W 422,622,2602 are excellent rimfire pistols. They were made(not currently made) in 4.5 and 6 inch barrel lengths. The 422 is blued steel slide with alloy frame. 622 is stainless steel slide with alloy frame. The 2206 is all stainless steel and I would buy one in a heartbeat. I recently aqquired this beauty, a 4.5 inch 622.

I recently acquired a Colt Cadet and it is a great little shooter. It isn't too fussy on ammo, but some of the cheap stuff has FTL issues (the bullet bends). Only the rear slides and is a heavy little gun for a .22 (which I prefer). Beretta Neos magazines work in it as well.
 
Another Buckmark fan here.
While mine is a rifle I appreciate it's elegant design.
My favourite gun at the moment.
 
If you want 99.9999% reliability, I can only name 2.

I have a .22LR conversion kit for my Sig P226R but it is very ammo fussy. Most others I have tried also have expensive taste in ammo. GSG is not too bad.
