Im looking to expand my horizons in regards to my calibre selection. I currently own the following:

1. 22LR
2. .223/5.56
3. 9mm
4. .38/.357
5. 7.62x39
6. 6.5x55
7. .308
8. 30-06
9. 45-70
10. 12 gauge

I hunt everything in Ontario from small game , turkey, white tail and moose. I'm also interested in new rounds for plinking/long range.

What's a new calibre that I'm currently missing out on and why should I add it to the repertoire?

Interested to hear your thoughts.

I said something very similar one time. I was thinking of a 7 or 8 m/m as I didn’t have any. I buddy said he had an 8x57 Bruno for sale. That started me on the 8’s. 8x57 , 8x50Lebel , 8x50 Austrian 8x60 Krop , and 8x56 Austrian. Total of seven rifles. Be careful of what you wish for they multiply. You do seem to be missing 7’s and 8’s.

To the original poster you got everything that is a shootable cartridge in your arsenal right now. I could suggest to you a .45 or .40 or a .338 Winchester Mag, but there again the cost of shooting these calibres are the higher prices unless your a reloader. The primary reason for shooting these calibres is the stopping power they have when you hit your target a .50 calibre would be the ultimate cartridge for stopping power too bad the liberial meanies don't want you to have this.

You have a 308 and a 30-06. What does one offer over the other? Besides long action or short action, they don't leave much to differentiate. I was going to suggest 270, but lately I have been favoring the 7-08. And really, none of this is about need. My wife is convinced I don't need a room devoted to guns and hunting with 3 cabinets/safes spilling out with long guns of various flavors.

Looks like it’s time for you to get into the BR series and no better place to start than the 30BR. The 30BR is simply a 6BR necked up to 30 cal which will launch 105 - 115 gr bullets l along a laser beam to to 300M. I have chambered the 30BR in a wide range of barrel contours from skinny to bull and they all make 5 shot nickel sized groups at 100M. With “game” bullets at 300M, a deer will not have time to fart before it hits the ground. Recoil is mild. Burning less than 35gr of powder you can play a lot for cheap. Load development consists of a powder fill halfway up the neck topped by a bullet of your choice.

I started out with the 30-06, it was my first rifle. I've since come to appreciate the .308 and 7.62x51 for the lower cost of ammo in my bolt guns. Ive also been on the hunt for a .308 semi auto to share ammo with.

Interesting, never heard of this so I will have to do some reading.

You need a 9.3x62...that would be your moose gun.
