Anyone have experience with this brand? I bought a box of 180 grain soft point in 7.62 x 54R. Looks like if might be a good bear cartridge this spring. I previously used 148 grain Bell ammo on Bear with disastrous results.

i've used it on a couple of deer, worked on them.

i crono'ed some out of a polish M44 and it is doing just over 2500fps.

~Angel~ uses nothing but S&B .303 British for all of her Enfield shooting, including her No.4(T)'s.

She owns a beautiful all original BSA Co.(1917) No.1 MkIII* (all matching numbers), including the rear sight. It even has the spring loaded Flanders muzzle mud flap mounted on it. She took it out to the range and was reasonably happy with her first "zeroing" go round at 100 yards. Here's the range report she put in her "data book" for this particular gun.

Note: Some details omitted for privacy. ;)

As far as I know (especially with 8mm Mauser anyway), it is loaded hotter than the North American factory ammo so it should have plenty of oomph to it.

S&B 7.62x54R functions well in my Berkut & SVT 40 as well as my Mosins. Accuracy is consistant but is not as accurate as the Privi Partizan stuff which used to come in.

Indeed. The North American loads of 8x57 are actually rather underpowered compared to European military loadings to apparently prevent silly people from blowing up Gew 88s with it.

I shot some 6.5x55 a few years back. It was rather "warm".

I actually favour S&B ammo for most of my surplus rifles. My Nagants, Kar98ks, my Ljungmann and M96. Havn't had any problems with any of them.

Accuracy isn't quite up to snuff with some handloads, back when I was able to handload, but it's definatly better, or at least on par with the vast majority of surplus and other factory ammos out there.

And yes. It's loaded a lot hotter than 90% of North American factory loads, but still well within safety margins, and under each cartridges respective military loads.

Sorry for reviving a mummified thread, but does anyone here re-load S&B ammo? I'd like to save the brass. I'm sure Winchester, Federal, or Remington might be better, but Sellier & Bellot .303 is $4 cheaper per box than any leading commercial brand.

I've also noticed that this brass is noticably harder than the North American stuff. Anyone else notice this?

Actually the S&B brass is some of the nicest stuff out there. I've been anything but pleased with the latest Winchester offerings. bearhunter

i use s&b 7.92x57mm fmj in a yugo m48 and get 1 inch 5 shot groups with open sights at 50m. not sure how good that is, but i'm quite pleased.
