Hi All,

I am trying to reload Sellier & Bellot 45-70 and I am unable to fully seat the primer. I measured the primer pocket and it is indeed shallower than the primer. I tried a few cases with the same result.
I am using large rifle primer from Campro and the pocket has been cleaned.
Has anyone every experienced this?

I tried the Lyman Case Care Kit, which includes a uniformer, I ran it until it bottomed out but I still could not fully seat the primer.
Is there a better option for a large rifle primer uniformer?

If I had this issue I would just get a different brand of brass. The old saying about not throwing good money after bad woud seem to apply here. Issues wth S&B brass has been noted by many.In my experience time spent fixing bad brass has always been a mistake at the end of the day. I have had no issues loading Remington,Winchester and Starline brass for my 1886 carbine in 45-70.

Good luck!

You should definitely not do this, but I may or may not have used Large Pistol Magnum primers in some of my rifle brass. LP primers are shorter (thinner?) than LR primers.

Of course this is potentially dangerous, especially if you were using Ruger #1 loads or high-end loads. It could be debated if this would be safe for "trapdoor" loads.

YMMV

Yeah, I was considering trying LP primers. I'm pretty new to reloading so I was unsure if it would be an issue. I'm using a newer lever action with low to moderate loads.
