I was out shooting my SKS today to get it sighted, even picked up a box of Sellier & Bellot 7.62x39 to do it with.

Now upon firing the rifle i would get 2 - 3 round bursts and even had one point where the firing pin hit the cartridge so lightly that it de seated the bullet from the casing and had a light impression on the primer.

At that point I decided to pack it up for the day and go home and tear the rifle down and clean the #### out of it (did remove the bolt when i got home and not a touch of rust and the pin was moving freely)

Even stranger is the fact that i was able to shoot my surplus ammunition without a single 2-3 round burst incident.

has anyone come across anything like this? I am very confused.

Check to make sure your firing pin doesnt stick the forward position. Push it forward as hard as you can then push from the bolt face. If it is sticking then that is your problem, if not I have no ideas. Ive shot plenty of S&B with FF firing pins in SKS' and CZ-858 with zero issues.

Yup, clean inside your firing pin channel. If you've never done it and bought the rifle new, chances are there's some cosmoline and dirt in there causing it to stick.

I've fired S&B out of five different SKS's of three different nationalities and there were no issues like this.

He said the FP was clean and rattled, my point is that the Russians didnt machine the FP channel and FP as nicely as some other countries did. They can in rare cases bind at the taper where the FP seats in its channel. If this is not the case then I say it may be a bad batch of S&B. He mentioned one bullet was broke free from its crimp, that should never happen. The light strike however is normal with a free floating pin, this is one instance where a spring loaded FP may be necessary. Though its usually not the case.

^^^^ This.... I'd put good money on a sticky firing pin. Above all with these SKS's is make sure that firing pin is clean and lubricated... :) I hope you find your issue and get your SKS back out on the firing line soon!

Firing pin is clean and moving. I pushed it as hard as i could toSee if it would stick and didn't. I'm ordering the Murray firing pin for it so I'll never have the issue ever again.

Also I emailed S&B but have yet to hear back.

Have you taken the bolt apart and removed the pin to see the channel is clear? It may rattle and move, but I guarantee there will be some crap in there if you've never taken it apart for cleaning. I do it every 5 or so range trips and there usually dirt, crud and rock hard little pieces of carbon in there. It's wise to keep is clean even if it's not giving you problems, because if you don't, it will.
