I looked in the BC Hunting Synopsis, but could not see the answer to this...

I am trying to find out if it is -

1) legal to sell the hide ( to a taxidermist )( ie: skin it, remove the hide and the meat, take the "raw" hide to the taxidermist )

2) are they worth much ( I know, it depends on size / colour / condition etc )

I want to hunt Black bears this year, want to try the meat, but do not want the hide.

Thanks,
OKH

It's legal. Tag and license information should go wiht the hide.

Big bears sell for good $$ anything under 6 ft isn't going to bring in too much.

Reminds me, I have a 5'6" bear hide in my freezer I don't want. Anyone want to buy it?:cool:

Yes it is legal
$ 150-300

I know people (not friends!) who hunt bear just to sell the hide...

I remember some thing like that.

I guess I could have done this first, but...

I just called a couple of taxidermists, and was told that no one will buy "raw", untanned Black bear hides.

So... aside from paying to have them tanned, then perhaps selling them (at a loss, after the cost of tanning? ), what can be done with them?

I forgot to ask them... is there also a Royalty fee for the Province when selling them ( if it can be done )

Sorry if these are stupid questions.

Have the hide tanned or made into a rug have the skull cleaned the original shooter with a tag can then go to E-Bay and sell them.
