Could someone help me out please? What are the legal requirements when selling and shipping a restricted handgun. Does the gun have to be registered to the buyer before shipping? Is a reference number all that is needed? Can it be sent through the post office as rifles are? Thank you very much.

First the gun must be registered to the new owner. There is a loophole where you can "lend" it while the papers come through, but you're better to wait until you have the new cert number. Call the CFC periodically with the reference number and when it goes through, get the info faxed to you.

DO NOT tell them it is a firearm. There is no legal requirement to do so and postal theft is a major problem.

hand gun sale

Thanks, prproulx. It doesn't sound much different than long guns, except for getting the confirmation before shipping. More simple than I expected.
