A friend recently inherited some antique shotguns but since he is not into firearms, he is wondering what the best way to sell them is. I suggested an auction such as Bud Haynes but I'm not sure if this will give him the best return. Any suggestions??

If the guns are pre-1898 , percussion or flint and very high in quality you will get a better price out of the USA. There is a USA gun internet site that will broker (hint, hint) or allow you to sell the guns with a minimal fee.
Selling such a gun requires no paperwork (except a CP form stating pre-1898 percussion gun) to cross the border via Canada Post.

EE here X?
Antiques are valued at better price here in canadastan. Look up the prices. Help your friend set up an account here and list them. CGN rules! Hehehehe...

Over the past few years I have sold my entire collection of American Civil War muskets, breech-loading carbines and percussion pistols on the un-mentioned site.
95% of the time the highest bidders were from the USA.

I think that is true for guns with american history and which are completely original. I don't think it is true for refinished and/or modified antique handguns nor for guns in mediocre condition. There are a number of such guns coming north and appearing on the EE
