Selling Outside of EE / Watch Out for Scammers!

Just thought I'd put this up for info...... selling outside of the Equipment Exchange [aka EE] is not permitted. That is to say, persons posting EE type solicitations in the discussion forums.

In the past few days there has been a party, now banned, TWICE, who has joined up then offered, among other things: Colt Python 6" for sale. Usually, "urgent sale" ; "really good deal"; "cheap price" etc. This is no doubt a scammer. We were alerted in the first instance as the party was also starting to solicit via PM offering items for sale in the same manner.

We try to be vigilant to keep scammers off the site. And will continue doing so.

Just want to warn everyone to be cautious. If it sounds too good to be true likely it is.

The following combined tend to be the hallmarks of a sketchy deal:

* deal way too good to be true [stuff going for 1/2 of what it would normally be worth].
* seller has urgency to sell [hence stuff being offered so cheap].
* newbie with no established trader rating [could also have a few ++ but as a buyer only].
* seller wants to send you a scan of his PAL [stolen from someone else & used to try to put you at ease].

Recommendations:

* do your due diligence that the seller actually has the item they are selling.
* ask for good pics [you could ask for pics with something else included in the pic that you request].
* do an online search for the same item to make sure the pics haven't been scooped by the "seller" from another source [ie online auction, etc].
* get full name, address & phone number for seller - actually call them to discuss the deal.
* check the area code for the phone # to compare to where the 'seller' says they are located.
* do what else you need to do to ensure it is a legitimate deal & you are dealing with an authentic seller!

Listen to your spidey senses. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it, unless you are prepared to lose the $$.
