Good results with Buffalo Barnes 250gr TSX@~2750 fps mv don't see the need to handload. This ammo cycles fine thru my Benelli R1. https://i.imgur.com/xN7417n.jpg / https://i.imgur.com/fzyv7X1.jpg / https://i.imgur.com/hW1sgxP.jpg
No incentive for me to handload with cost of components this ammo is ~$5 per round nearly the same for handloads.
However got 275gr Swift A-Frames & H4350 I'd like to try in my R1 I would follow Swift Reloading manual guidelines.

Best advice I heard was Ganderite. In loading manuals pick out the fastest powder recommended. Peak pressure curve will have passed by the time gasses go into the gas port. Not as hard on the action.
Don't think of the 338wm as a larger caliber, at 300wm velocity. Think of it as a 250gr bullet at 308 velocity. You can get that velocity with light for bore bullets, but this caliber really comes into its own with 250gr+.
