Ok guys I never owned a semi auto 12 gauge up to now but I'm interested.
There are two main systems inertia and gas operated.
The best inertia guns are from Benelli and also stoeger
The Best gas operated are from beretta
Am I right ?

What are the advantages of inertia vs gas
Which has less recoil ?
Wich is faster ?
Which is more reliable ?
Wich is easier to clean ?

Thank you for your help fellow gunnutz

inertia is not as apt to hang up as a gas operated, meanig it should be kept clean. the inertia does not use the gas from burning powder to cycle the ejection and feeding system.the gas operated has less recoil.they both can be fired as fast as you can pull the trigger ,when functioning properly.inertia is more reliable IMHO.inertia takes less time to clean as there is no gas system to collect residue. the best gas operated are beretta? Hmmmmm. maybe. i've got a customer who just bought an extrema II. he's had it back to the dealer and had it replaced with another one since sept.this particular gun has to be kept very, very clean to cycle low brass shells.now someone else can join in and tell you the exact opposite about gas and inertia systems.

Shotgun

I owned a Stoeger, it shot like a dream, never jammed, never failed.

But, with Magnum 3 inch turkey loads, or magnum slugs the recoil could rattle your teeth.

On the other hand, my 13 year old fires a gas operated Berreta without a flinch or complaint.

I always liked how my remington auto loader performed while hunting. I like the idea of a auto loader for birds cause some times it is hard to chamber a round with a pump from sertain positions/angles.

Which has less recoil ? gas
Which is faster ? same
Which is more reliable ? inertia
Which is easier to clean ? inertia

all of these are somewhat dependant on the gun though. ie: a good quality gas gun is more reliable than a poor quality inertia gun.

There's also the old Long Recoil system, found in the Browning A-5, SKB 900, Franchi 48, Savage 775. The breech block and barrel travel backwards into the receiver as a unit under recoil, and a large spring on the magazine tube pushes the barrel back forward first; the breech block remains at the back of the action until the barrel is fully forward. Then a catch releases the bolt, and it picks up a shell on it's way forward.

Also stays clean, is very fast, and can run for thousands of rounds reliably. Only downside is it kicks more and friction rings are adjusted for either regular or magnum loads.

I have the stoeger inertia driven shotgun and I'll +1 everything said above. It stays exceptionally clean, dead reliable and kicks like a mule (with heavy loads).
