Hey,
I have been loving my XCR, but not really loving how much it costs to shoot. I was thinking of getting a new semi-auto 22lr to play with but I wasnt sure what people were shooting.

I am looking to keep it fairly cheap, but it doesnt have to be the cheapest thing possiable. I have been looking at the Ruger 10/22, but I dont seem to be able to locate a decient stock for it. Are people buying a pre-built rifle with the tacticool stock on it, or are they buying a stock from somewhere and putting it together themselves? I am basically just looking for some starting directions. It doesnt have to be shooting tacs, but I wouldnt mind some accuracy. Mostly for gongs.

Where are people getting a good .22lr, a nice stock, and deep mags.

Thanks,
Jesse

I'd go with a Tapco Intrafuse stock, they're $119 at Fabsports and they've got some fairly good reviews. Best of all its easy to put on, and its made out of a pretty solid polymer.

As for the mags definitely go with Butler Creek 25 round steel lipped mags. In my experience they've been very reliable. Factory Ruger mags are also excellent, but don't come in anything with over a 10 round capacity.

Fun setup to shoot :]

Q: How many rounds can I have in my gun?
A: This is a never ending source of confusion. Pay attention, I'll try to sort it out.

SHORT ANSWER:
Rimfire rifle magazines - no limits
Magazines designed for centerfire or rimfire pistols - 10 rounds
Magazines designed for centerfire bolt/pump/lever firearms - no limit.
Magazines designed for centerfire semi-automatic rifles - 5 rounds

LONG ANSWER:
First thing to understand is that there is FEDERAL FIREARMS LAW, there is FEDERAL HUNTING LAW (Migratory game birds, ducks and geese), and there are different PROVINCIAL HUNTING LAWS.
First up, the federal firearms laws. This is the one we all have to follow, whether we hunt or not.

-For rifles with any type of action other than semi-auto, there is no limit! NONE, ZERO, ZILTCH, NADA.
Same for .22 rimfire, even if it is semi-auto. No Limit. A 50 round mag for a R***r 10-22 is fine.

-For semi-auto centrefire rifles, the limit is 5 rounds.
Note that this is 5 rounds in the mag, and does not include the one in the chamber. 6 rounds total, if the design permits it.
The one exception is for the M1 Garand, as it uses 8 round clips.
Also, any belt/link designed for belt fed machine guns designed before 1945 is exempted from the 5 rounds rule. A .223 belt would not qualify, based on age.

-For handguns, the mag limit is 10 rounds. Again, 10 plus one in the tube, 11 total.

Highlighted the laws regarding rimfire rifles above.

Basically, there is no mag cap on .22 rimfire rifle magazines.

I would say the sr22 would be the best one, but if you like your xcr, try and get the most similar stock to that if possible (might just be the sr22). I would definately go with a 10/22 because of all the available large cap mags and even speedloaders for the mags.

thompson center r55 all weather, no mods needed, doesn't look tacticool BUT has fibre optic sights eliminating the need for optics out to 100M, has a $400 match ss barrel, is wonderfully balanced, can get them quick in Canada as well as spare mags and to make a 10/22 as accurate it would cost significantly more. Only drawback is, unless your creative, need to clean bore from Muzzle end....which I refuse to do. That's like sanding wood against the grain.

^^^^^^^

I was just about to say don't get too hooked on a semi-auto .22 and that a bolt action is very satisfying.... Then you go an post this.

Nice!!!

and OMG the drum mag... I just jizzed....

You need one of these.......tac driving machine out of the box.
