Been thinking about trying out a semi auto tac shotgun. Primary purpose would be general purpose use, the odd friendly competition and as a camp gun. Generally my shogun goes with me everywhere. Right now I have a Mossberg 590A1 20". I could sell or trade it as necessary.

Guns that come to mind are the Benelli M4 which is a little steep for my price range. Or a Mossberg 930. Don't know much about Rem 1100 but I guess they might be an option as well. Chokes would be an added benefit.

Thoughts, opinions?

Just looking for a little advice as I've never run a semi shotgun.

P.S still deciding how to attach a sling and what type

on the flip side, Mossy 930's are a good choice also

930 or 1100 if your on a budget.
m2 or m4 or stat 8 if you got some $$ to play with
I own all of them other then the m4, which i have shot alot.
Ill take my m2 over any of them.

What advantages, besides fit and finish, does the M4 give over the 930? I find the price tag of the M4 hard to justify. I have read good reviews of the 930, it functions well and you can ghost load it just like the M4. I can easily add a mag extension to the 930 bringing my capacity up to 5+1+1. The only thing is I like ghost ring sites so I would have to have some installed on the 930 (I'm not a fan of Mossberg ghost rings though).

I know the M4 is a nicer gun, but I dont think it offers any real adavantge for me other than lightening my pocket more.

Thoughts?

I cant say enough good things about my 930.Absolute best shotgun ive ever owned.Cycles everything ive fed it and the action is butter smooth.

Plink recently bought a hatsan semi, I got a chance to try it and wouldn't hesitate to buy one. There is a write up in the black and green shotgun section somewhere. It's base of the fabarm sat-8 but built in turkey(?) instead of Italy, I think it's just over $400 so for your purpose it's hard to beat.

I think it'll cost around $900 to build a tactical-looking Mossberg 930: $550 for a base 930, $100 for a set of ghost ring sights, $100 for a pistol-grip stock, $80~$100 for tube extension, $50 for misc parts, and $100 for labour if you don't do it yourself.

For those that own the 930 - does it cycle those cheap Walmart Universal target loads?

Yeah it does.Mine eats cheapo walmart #4 with no problems whatsoever.

Maybe a pic will help.Has the +2 ext and a 6 shot mesa side saddle.

That's about what I had it pegged at, minus the pistol grip stock. A PG stock on a Mossberg defeats one of their greatest features: the tang safety. :) Ghost ring sites might be more expensive depending on type used.

Any suggestions for GR sights for the 930. Or adjustable rifle style sights.

That's awesome... The Fabarm SAT8 doesn't like those, but takes the Crappy tire Winchester 7 1/2 heavy game loads just fine.

Yeah Pistol grip stock on the Mossberg will definitely be a personal perference thing, but you are right abuot the tang safety as it makes it awkward to have to move your thumb up to engage it from a PG stock.

Tactical Ordnance used to carry LPA ghost ring sights but I'm not sure if they still do now. They have the Wilson combat ones, though. Should check out their site for what they currently carry.

I was on Tac Ord site earlier today. They no longer carry the LPA sights but do have some nice looking ones by Vang Comp. They look very similar to the LPA sights actually. Can you use Wilson sights on a Mossberg? I was under the impression that the did not fit.

Am I correct to assume with that +2 extension the capacity of the mag is five 3" shells and six 2 3/4"? Which is perfectly legal of course.

Also without the stand-off device the extension would be past the barrel end by a bit correct?

The breacher is part of the barrel on that particular model,it does not come off.I believe with a regular barrel the ext would be inline with it.
