Semi auto in PPC

I have been shooting PPC for a few years now, shot a match this past weekend as a club guest, had a blast. Anyhow the convo came up about semi auto's, the match host/RSO was wondering the proper method of holstering a loaded semi, most semi's do not have decockers, neither of my 9mm's do, I have always cocked and locked, holstered and shot first round in single action. There seems to be mixed views on the topic, how many of you manually drop the hammer then holster? If you have a decocker type pistol do you decock or not?

The host of the event has witnessed a mishap where the shooter slipped manually dropping the hammer, no injuries, just a scare. Im interested to know the exact method.

There are a number of ways, but it all boils down to diligence. Some pinch the hammer while they are squeezing the trigger. Some hold the hammer back and just lower it. Others place their thumb in the way, and roll it out of the way while lowering the hammer.

After thinking it over, maybe you are talking about the C.P.C.A. 1500 COURSE OF FIRE. In that case, cocked and locked is the way to go.

I definitely understand and know how to safely drop the hammers on my pistols, I was wondering if dropping the hammer was still being enforced at most matches or if the rules have changed over the years since striker fired pistols such as Glocks and M&P's have hit the scene.I have no problem shooting my first round in DA.

If the pistol can fire first shot Double Action, then the hammer must be lowered
either manually or with a decocker before holstering.

10.11 Holstered Semi-Automatic Pistols - Loaded single action semiautomatic pistols, with a round in the
chamber, will be holstered with the safety on “safe.” Loaded double action semi-automatic pistols, with a round in
the chamber, will be holstered with the hammer lowered to the uncocked position.

10.12 Double Action Semi-Automatic Pistols - The first shot of every string must be fired double action.

And yes. 10.12 is enforced by RO who know their firearms.

As a competitor, you should know and do the right thing. Typically CZ in TDA
can be cocked and locked, but 10.12 means they must be hammer down before
holstering.
