I just finished doing some work on my friends SBEII which involved a thorough cleaning. He complained of erratic ejection of shells so I removed the butt and recoil spring and sure enough there was a teaspoon of gunk in the tube and on the spring:eek:. After cleaning and reassembly it functions as it should. This reminded me that my old A303 had been ejecting shells further and further indicating excessive bolt speed so I ordered up a new spring from Stoeger and sure enough the old spring was shorter, in fact I was told the new springs are shorter than the old ones they originally used so mine was really pooched.

how old is ur buddys SBE2 how was the spring tube any wear or rust ? other then the usual cleaning i may give mine a complete tear down this summer

He's had the gun about 6 years and has maintained it well but never cleaned out the recoil tube and spring. It was free of rust but had powder residue and grime form field carry. It should be done once a year and is not difficult, it took about 30 minutes total.

Quick question...the spring you ordered for your 303...did you order it directly from Stoeger, or through a dealer? Reason I'm asking is because I've been told, by Stoeger, that they do not deal directly with the public. I've been trying to get a 30" barrel for my 391 for quite some time now, and they keep telling me that it must be ordered through a dealer.

I got it directly from Stoeger, it was a bit of a run around but a fellow called Peter Smith eventually answered and I ordered it. It could be they won't sell barrels because has more they don't want to step on dealer's toes for larger ticket items.
