Semi Auto...Which One???

I have two Berettas, and would never buy another. Go Benelli. From what I have seen they are worth every penny. If you don't want to spend that much the Biakals seem to work very well.

I'm looking to buy a new shot gun 3.5 for ducks, geese and some skeet. I've been hearing alot of good things about the sx3 and the maxus. Just want some feed back on what all of you think. Thanks

I own two old browning gold and two super x2 both work great. I have shot a friends super x 3 on many occasions with no problems. Never had the opportunity so far to try the maxus. Had the remingtons and would not go back there. Don't think you can go wrong with a x3. Just my 2 cents.

Since you're new here and we don't know you yet, can you make the case why you NEED to have 3.5" capability? Lots of people report punishing recoil and cost from 3.5 inchers, and stop using them.

I have a new beretta a400 xplore. It works flawlessly and will handle the lightest loads to the heaviest. The gun looks great and is very light. I did not get the kick recoil reduction system as they had none in stock but i shoot mostly target loads anyway. My only complaint is after buying the gun and putting about 75 rds through it i have come to realise i am not a semi auto kind of guy.Just seem to prefer o/u. I liked the benneli also but the safety on the beretta is reversible and i am a lefty.

I fell in love with the Browning Sliver Hunter. will be my next shotgun. did the 3.5" thing for a while. waste of money, I never noticed any difference in how the geese dropped, only in the cost of the shells and accuracy-reducing recoil increase.

These are the 3 guns that I would look at. All 3 are different price ranges.

I have a Baikal MP-153 in Max 4 Camo. Its a great gun for the price. This gun can shoot everything from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2. The internal components are just as strong as a Beretta or Browning, but they don't have the nice fit n finish of a more expensive gun. Does'nt matter to me because I use my gun for hunting waterfowl in some pretty harsh conditions, and I don't have to worry about scratches then. Lebaron's sells these guns in Camo, just like the one I own for $700 and change. Alot of gun for the money.

If you want to spend more money, then in the middle ground of a really good waterfowl gun is a Browning Silver 3 1/2, in camo. They are good guns, but just don't have the same features of the more expensive guns. Usually goes for around $1100 or so.

Top of the list gun is still the Benelli SBE II. Around $2 G's. What can be said about it that has'nt been already. It is the best 3 1/2 shooting shotgun on the market. I think the Browning Maxus is a good gun also, but I just don't know enough about it to comment on it. Winchester SX3 is basically a Browning Gold, and they are really nice, and can be had for a good deal usually.

Until Benelli comes out with a 3 1/2 inch version of the Vinci, the SBE III is still the king of the hill.

All the B guns are top notch
Also have heard good feed back on the SX3
I saw a new Rem Versa Max in the states the weekend , if it works as well as it points it will be a winner. However Rem has had so many failures in the last few years my confidents is shaken. It is a wait a see
IMHO the 3.5 shell are over rated.

Hey fellow countryman, I bought the MAXUS in March. Shot a few clays and lots of geese this past fall. It is by far the best shotgun i've used and highly recommend it. the recoil is not a problem and it's lightening fast. A solid gun! Can't wait til next fall.

Bought an SX3 this summer and love it. I originally was looking for a Maxus but I am tall guy with long arms and the stock on the Maxus is short. The SX3 is not quite as fast, but does great. I shoot trap with it and its more than fast enough for doubles. Anyone else who ones one - is it possible to easily take apart the gasket to easily clean it?

The cutoff lever blocks the shells in the magazine from entering the receiver when it is cycled. For example, you are duck hunting, and a Canada is going to skirt the decoys. Flip the cutoff lever, lock the bolt back to eject the #4 steel 2-3/4" shell, drop in a 3" of BBs and close the action. You will have one shot, or if you flip the cutoff lever back - two more shots.

I think most people missed the OP's reference to "some skeet shooting". That is what makes this question tricky. All of the suggested semi shotguns are good hunting shotguns in their own class, but very few would be considered a worthy gun for any amount of skeet/trap. Yes I know, any shotgun can be used for clay but...

I have been in the market for such a dual use shotgun for a while and I have come to conclusion that it may not exist. Beretta Urika 2 classic sporting is the closest, Browning Silver Sporting and good old Rem. 1100 Sporting are distant seconds.

Don't agree at all. When I shoot skeet with a 12ga semi I use my own 1oz AA reloads loads which are real light.
I have shot them with my browning gold (s), win superx2 and even my rem 1187 and not a problem with cycling. Two of these guns are 3 1/2 and two are 3" and all 4 have hunted geese with heavy mag loads again with no issues.
One thing I do is clean all of my guns fully ( total take down) after every use.Maybe that makes a difference.
