Semi-Autos offered in Mid to Big Bore Cartridges?

Looking for the same thing. Came across this document. Gun would be used for sport shooting (Fast Target Shooting at Long Range)

Some interesting options on there.

RS-Q2 Osprey 308
Kel-Tec RFB (Although I hear these are having cycling issues? Any comment on that?)
FNAR Competition 308
B & T APC 308
Alexander Arms Ulfberht .338 Lapua (I think this is my favorite big gun out there)

I was told this would be the better forum to post this topic in.

I see that a couple rifles (BAR, R1 etc) offer some larger cartridge options like 338WM, 35 Whelen, 350 Legend, 450 Bushmaster, 458 WM etc

What other semi auto rifles offer mid bore and big bore offerings?

Basically looking for semi autos that offer cartridges BIGGER than your standard .308/30.06s.

I have personally owned 2 mid bore Semi-auto rifles. One was a used (but basically new) Remington 750 in 350 Whelen. Balanced well enough. Shot decent but I couldn’t get past the clunkiness of the action. I also owned and recently sold a Merkel SR1 in 9.3x62. It was light and handy and 100% reliable. It did mangle the case mouths but if you let the barrel cool, it was capable of near MOA with factory PPU. My handloads did not fair as well in the accuracy department. Once again… just didn’t like the long action semi auto feel. I’ve also owned a browning bar in 300 WSM and that felt much less clunky.

I’m not sure if Browking is chambering the 325 WSM in the BAR but that would be pretty slick. I think if someone made a 358 Win or a 338 Federal in a short compact package, it would sell pretty good. That said, I’d probably try it out and go back to my bolts, drillings and levers, haha.

Enjoy the search…. It’s half the fun!

I might go the BAR in 338 route and eventually re-barrel to .458 and have it converted.

Did you buy your BAR 458 as is or have it re-barrelled at a gunsmith?

The 338 is a 2.5" magnum family, just like 458. Feeding and even mags should need minimal gunsmithing. Spin a barrel on, chambered in 458, check for headspace. I have a bar 338, it gets your attention, 458 should wound on one end....kill the other.

RS-Q2 I don't think I've ever seen one out in the wild but for their 556 version the few people that managed to get one were very much not impressed after many months of fighting with that company.
RFB mostly good but gas system is complicated, also runs on metric? FAL magazines not the most available especially for quality ones.
FNAR is discontinued and magazines are proprietary to the FNAR I think FN BAR DBM are the same and the magazines are +$120 each.
B&T ~$6000
Havent heard much about the AA Ulfberht but if you can afford one then more power to you.

Honestly for things you can buy today id say Tavor 7 > RFB > B&T and im not much a fan of the tavor platform.

Heres hoping the Raven 308 comes out swinging when it finally launches but i'll wait for some beta testers to find out if the newest Canadian rifle is a paperweight or not.

While I'm sure those semi .308 offerings are good choices I am looking for semi-autos in larger chamberings, .338 and up.

I already own a semi-auto 30.06.

The ACR exists in 450 bushmaster. And since the barrel is quick change, you could get a custom barrel made... as long as the cartridge fits into a AR format magazine and the bolt face (or it can be modified).

Yeah that's the model that got.me thinking about this. I wish it was an option on our current 180 platforms.
