Usually guys that claim all auto's are junk are the guys that don't clean anything on a reg basis, use the same left-over..left-over ammo because they also never shoot  & of course there's the... my brother's cousins, uncle had a .......
well i just plain hate semi's my cousin phil had

   Oh ya.. well my brothers, good friends aunt had a bolt gun that jammed & wouldn't go off...just before the grizzly ate her  that was in Nova Scotia of course

Rottenfuher, Senior and Sputnik tend to agree with me..........
Your statement is so true Senior, that many hunters never clean there toys at all no matter what rifle action type.......This just becomes wholly obvious with semi auto rifles.

Otherwise no army or police force would use these arms.

The difference is, they, as public defenders are honor bound
(as "keepers of the peace,") as well morally and legally, to keep thier handguns and longarms in top order.

Tell me of a hunter who keeps spare small parts and a cleaning kit around for their rifles and chances are he gives a crap about his hunting methods and technique.

Which brings us back to the "undisiplined goon" who cannot be trusted with the care of a slingshot much less an autoloader........

ok, explain this
Remington 7400
Second owner, took it to three different gun shops, one of wich was the Remington service center. Continued to jam.
They replaced everything but the stock, the reciever, and the barrel.
No go.
Jams were inconsistent. failure to feed, stovepipe, failure to close.
Jams happened with Remington, Winchester, and handloads, of various wieghts.
Happened with all of three different mags, even with a buddies mag.
I got the gun eventually. I stripped it to bare bones, and carefully examined everything. It was clean as a whistle.
I tried firing it lubed with Rem oil, I tried firing it dry.
That ignorant POS is out there somewhere, I traded it. It's a 30-06, beware.

It was the 740/742/7400 that pretty much ruined the reputation of all other semis.

Brownings are heavy and expensive.
Ruger Mini14s aren't very accurate.
European semis are expensive and hard to get service for.
The best of the bunch is the Colt AR series and they are restricted

Alot of people bought a 740/7400 and had problems, sold it off and bought a boltgun. If they had bought a pump instead, they would have been alot better off and happier with the original purchase :D

SC...............

Johny Canuck I own bolt action remys only.....my 30-06 is a Voere 2185.
The other centrefire semis I own are garands and one polytech M-14s....
I know it is expensive but the Voere 2185 is very reliable.......if you look around they can be purchased for far less than european market value.

Shame on remington for asking the money for that rifle, winchester has not made a new high power semis for a few years........

It was a Rem, nough said :? Kinda like because your Dodge Omni was a piece of crap..all cars are a piece of crap!
I've seen some damm fine working 7400s, but I've also seen as many that weren't
It would be like judging bolt accuracy based on a Sav 340

I've put 20 odd rounds through my 7400 between cleanings, and no problems.
Its just when it comes back in, its cleaned well, and no problems with it at all.
But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion right?

As for shotguns I can go either way since I do know what gun cleaner smells like.

I remember one time duck hunting with 2 older gentleman, one with a Beretta auto and the other with a Winchester auto and me with my 870. Bad weather, sleat, freazing temperatures (-15 or 20). 3 ducks land in the decoys and all you hear is click, click, bang. The bang was the 870 and the click was both auto's, I guess they should have cleaned their guns every now and again.

It's funny how well a clean gun performs in bad weather.
