Hi Guys,

I live in Whitby/Ontario and I have at my disposal +/- $ 1100.00 and I am thinking of either purchasing a Kimber 84M or having a semi-custom built. I have a stainless short Mod 70 Classic CRF as a donour and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestion as who I can contact for the barrel/stock and a smith to put it all together. I do not know what the prices are for custom work. I do not know if its perferable to contact different people for the barrel and stock and get a smith to put all togheter. I would prefer to shop in Canada for the components. Is there a anyone in Ontario that can do the work ?

Your help and advise would be appreciated.

You are considering two very good options, I like the M70 over any other production rifle except the Kimber, I own the 8400 in 270 WSM and can't say enough about it. The M70 +1100 will certainly put a nice package together. The cost of building a custom will not be recovered but you will end up with what pleases you. The Kimber is better built in my opinion but it costs more than $1100 unless you are looking at used.
What caliber are you considering?

Bigbull,

I am thinking of either the 7/08 or .260 but cannot make a decision as I still studying the calibers. I am looking into the .260 but I am having second thoughts in regard to it being dropped and discontinued in the future. I curently have a .308 but I am going to sell it as its to close to my .300 WSM which I can download.

I would go with the Kimber as well...my buddy just bought one this last fall in the 270 WSM and it is a very nice gun, tack driver. He said it shoots better out of the box than any of the Sakos he has owned.

I dont think you could go wrong with the Kimber, it would be my choice in the 270 WSM if I was in the market.

My Partner bought thr Kimber 84 Montana in 7-08 and it is one of the lightest rifles I have ever held in my hands, this model is all stainless with a beautiful synthetic stock of very high quality, it is amazing what Kimber has done with this rifle. Another thing is I consider the Kimber a semi custom rifle due to the attention to quality in the build. My nod goes to the 7-08 due to bullet choice but both will work if quality bullets are used.
