Semi Custom Voerre Actioned 308 Norma I Don't Use Anymore

While I think my .416 Rigby had the edge on my .375 Ultra, the difference was small, and I don't see the point of tying up big dollars in both. When the powder capacity of a .416 bore is reduced to that of the .375 Ruger, I think that the results will be under-spectacular. A great wildcat would be a .416 Ultra, and you already have an investment in .375 Ultra brass. This is the round Remington should have brought out, as the Ultra series followed the .416 Remington so closely they must have been on the drawing board at the same time.

With the right bullet your .375 Ultra can perform double duty; it works well as an up close defense round against thin skinned dangerous game and it is a good long range medium game killer. You seem to have the power house stuff covered, particularly in that you don't seem interested in a big powered .45 as I was going to suggest a .460 G&A, which again can be made from .375 Ultra brass.

The bolt face of your Voere is compatible with the North American belted magnums, so I think I would consider building a small bore, high velocity, long range rig. Either a .264 Winchester or a .257 Weatherby is an interesting prospect. A long pipe will produce the velocity those long skinny bullets need to reach out there, and when you're not rock hounding long range crows and coyotes might be fun.

The thing about my 375RUM is that it has a 26" barrel and no iron sights it is by far my favorite rifle/cartridge combo, with 300gr bullets @ 2800fps I just made a 3 shot group that measured under 3" dead on @ 460 yards nope don't want to mess with that kind of performance.

I guess another option would be to buy another 375RUM cut the barrel shorter then install detachable scope rings/bases and install a XS Ghost Ring Backup sight when the scope is off.

About rebarreling to a smaller cal I do have an identical rifle as the 308 NM that is now rechambered from a 243 to a 6mm-284, a Rem 700 Mtn rifle in 280Rem and a 270 Weatherby chambered Husquavarna so don't have a need for rebarreling the 308 NM to a smaller cal cartridge that area is covered.

As you stated I do not have an interest in the higher performance 458 cal rounds it has to do with the recoil and rainbow trajectory of these rounds mostly and I just don't see the need for me here in Canada.

I'm going to look into the 416 RUM that you are talking about but don't know if that is of interest to me either, I'm thinking it may produce more recoil than I care for I'm starting to get a bit older now and don't need the aches and pains from that kind of recoil which is why I started looking at the 416 Ruger package.

Boomer do you have a gunsmith that could rebarrel my 308 NM that you would recommend?

With regards to recoil, there was little difference in felt recoil between my pal's .375 Ruger and my Ultra because of the light weight of the Ruger Alaskan. With a custom rifle, to a large degree you get to choose the weight, but I would expect it to jump around some.
