I know I'm probably going to get laughed at for this thread but what the hell.

Is there anyone out there (on this continent) that has really tried to shake things up with the ol' Colt 1911 platform?

In my case I'm not looking to do anything too crazy, basically something that looks like a modernized Colt 1900.
The Russians also have something that comes close to what I'm thinking: A machine pistol called the OTS-33 Pernach.

In summation, it would be pretty much like any other colt, with a few rare exceptions: a proportionally longer (and taller) slide and barrel, fitted to a longer frame with dust covers that go right to the end of the barrel to complete a slab sided, "monolithic" look....

So....this even possible to commission without burning tens of thousands of dollars in the process? Or should I just buy an SV infinity or Beretta 87T and be done with it?

Thanks in advance to anyone that dignifies this thread with a serious response. =/

AMT made long slide pistols. Generally not reliable though.
Springfield Armory makes a 6" .45. As do several other manufacturers.

What was that carbine top you could get for a 1911 frame???
Dominator or some thing ? Mil -Arm in Edmonton had one year
or two ago -single shot.

If you have more time than you know what to do with,
any thing is possible- the worst will be that you screw up
a good colt ( norinco;))
