Semi shotgun max rounds?

Is the max rounds for semi auto shotguns the same as centerfire rifles? I want to put an extension on my Browning gold and was wondering if I had to keep it at 5 round max or under.

Just remember, it's 5 in the magazine, plus one in the chamber. The limit only applies to the actual magazine.

All centerfire semi's are limited to 5 in the mag. The Firearms Act makes no distinction between rifles and shotguns, only centerfire and rimfire.

Note that some shotguns will let you ghost load an extra round for 5+1+1 overall capacity and it is perfectly legal. Also, some 3" or 3.5" shotguns will allow 6 2.75" shells to fit in the mag tube and this is also perfectly legal according to federal law. Not necessarily legal for big game or birds, though, depending on your provincial hunting regs.

It does in my Benelli M4. It just takes longer to get the 7th round in there.

All you're doing is adding a round into a normal step of the loading process. Rather than letting a round from the mag tube into the lifter, and shell in there already keeps the shell stop latch CLOSED and then the lifter lifts and shell already in it.
