Has anyone had experience in doing so? Is it possible or worth while, with all the regs and such. Also has anyone had good experiences having old S&W's reblued to their original high polished glory in Canada? I'm hesitant to have a smith not with S&W do the work, as they don't have all the original roll mark tools ect. to do a fine restore.

Does S&W even do the things your describing? Never heard of them refinishing an old revolver, you would think they would have to retool to replicate older roll marks.
Also you would be sending it across the border and having to get them to send it across once it was finished, sounds like quite the work.
Definitely interested

I've never done it, mostly because of the expense of exportation and re-importation.

Exporting
Prophet River will take care of all your Importing needs, however we do not Export from Canada to the U.S. (except for certain warranty returns).
We recommend BORDERVIEW International Firearm Logistics, who offers a full-service "USA Firearm Import Service" to export guns from Canada to the United States.

Ya they can restore old S&Ws to their original condition. From what I've heard and read, it's also on their website.

Yes there are plenty of places to get bluing done in Canada. I'm also interested in hearing people's experiences with them. I'd prefer going direct to S&W for reasons stated above. My model 27 has a glorious finish, as good or better than my python. I'd love to get that finish on more of my revolvers.

I have no idea where you are located, but Jason Spencer in Ottawa (Gunco) did a great bluing job on an original Colt 1911 38Spl for me (yes, a 38 Spl 1911)

Jason Spencer - the best factory-like blueing man in Canada. Period. Expensive though... his metal prep work is second to none, which is the secret to success.

I don't think S & W even do the old blue they once did... what model are you thinking of having done?

If the revolver isn't rusty there are many in Canada who can give it a decent high polish blue... you just need to let them know you want a quality job and to spend the time polishing it properly.

I'm thinking about a model 15, 19 and 29. I want the same kind of finish as on my model 27. I've seen lots of pics of revolvers refinished by S&W that look phenomenal. They even do nickel.

Have you talked to S&W's authorized service depot? Could you send the gun to them so that they could handle the back and forth across the border?

I would also recommend Jason Spencer for quality rebluing. He can do the proper preparation so that the edges and markings don't look melted.
You'll get what you pay for. He could also do any action tuning you might feel necessary as well.
