Serbu Shorty

Someone's been watching Hickovk45 (and that's a good thing)...

You can get the same thing non-r if you don't mind a regular stock. They're custom 870's with short barrels. You can get the same from DLask. Just remember to register it as a restricted if you swap in the supplied pistol grip (nudge-nudge, wink-wink)... And then de-register it when you put the full stock back on.

Ok guys, thanks for the info! At least it isn't prohib. I guess the small full stock 870 clone is the better way to go.

Just to clarify...

Both Serbu and DLask are doing essentially the same thing. Both are taking 870 receivers and putting on their own in house manufactured barrels, mag tubes, and furniture.

The Serbu is, at it's heart, a modded 870. Same with the DLask. Both companies buy their receivers from Remington.

Good to know. Thanks!

This is not always the case. Many, Serbu shotguns would actually be prohib in Canada, because, unlike Dlask, they cut down Remington barrels rather than manufacture their own.
Here is a photo of a Serbu for sale on Gun Broker - note the cut down Remington barrel shown in the second pic:

At which point does a steel tube marked "REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY" become a barrel and can no longer be cut below canadian limits ? I'm sure Dlask is, at some point, cutting down a pipe...

But DLask cuts down their own pipe, therefore legal, instead of cutting down the Remington pipe, which would be illegal. Makes ZERO sense, but that's the law.

Side note: DLask is a good place to pick up new Rem barrels for cheap... When they make a batch, they sell off the Rem barrels for around $140 - which is a quite reasonable deal for a new Remington barrel.

Dlask and Serbu are both manufacturer, Serbu assembled their shorty with bare receivers and parts from Remington, it's not a cut down job, barrels could be cut at the Remington factory like the 10" MCS models.

There's already some Super Shorty in Canada and they are restricted.

And the MCS too ! ;)

Restricted

Are they restricted due to length or restricted because they are legally defined as handguns? Those two classifications are very different and have different ramifications depending on the situation.

Is that based on opinion or fact? Canadian laws dictate what happens in Canada, and do not govern what happens in other countries. If a licensed manufacturer exported complete firearms to Canada, does it really matter what they did in their own factory on foreign soil? I understand what you are getting at, but unless you have proof to support it then you can't conclusively say what something would be, only what it may be depending on how the laws are interpreted. Also, if Serbu re-profiled or cut the barrels to remove the Remington Arms rollmark, how would anyone prove that the barrels were adapted and not made from scratch?

the Serbu, for sure chops down factory bbl,s and reworks them, so no go for importing.
I met with them at shotshow as well as another company that does this.
we have plans to make something like this, but sales have been slower then predicted in 2013 so the project is on hold.

But is that fact? Are firearms manufactured in other countries subject to the manufacturing and modification rules of ours? I am not saying you are wrong, but I have yet to see someone substantiate that claim.

Yes for NA made and ITAR countries.
Otherwise I would have had my good friend at king armoury in arazona. Who has a MFG lic. To cut 18 inch bbls down and export them too us.
Tried 100% no go
