Series 70 colt with differences what do I have here *update* I know what I have

So I picked this up over Xmas and it finally got here, I've got some speculation that this might of been a special run that never happened, anyway I haven't seen another like it I know there must be more so if you have one and know why the serial # is where it is and I know series 70 in govt are hard to come by in satin nickel

Series 70 government in satin nickel, has serial number forward of the trigger guard. Also got box and paperwork saying it was purchased at hunters in 1975 for $250

Nice Colt. I also recently came into a Series 70 same range. S/N 70G43001 to 70G73000 – 1974 – 30,000, although mine is blued. http://www.sightm1911.com/1911Production.htm PS, May want to blacken serial #.

It's possible that it is only an error from an employee....if it was a special run it would show in the serial number or on the end label on the box. Anything special on the label?

It's not a special run, but thoughts were it was going to be, but change their mind hence the forward serial number. I don't know just trying to find out

Personally, never seen it. Not sure if it makes your Colt a rare bird or worth a premium over the run in the same serial number range with the numbers stamped in the usual area.

But it sure is kinda cool just the same.

I have colts with the serial number in both places. Older one's behind, newer in front. satin, blue and chrome models
