I think it’s probably the usual requirement for non CF personnel to shoot on a DND range? If I read it correctly either DCRA or an equivalent PRA membership. Ditto for shooting at Heals, Nanaimo or Vokes out here in B.C.

Then how does NSCC get around the insurance requirement? What about when cadets shoot there - they are not CF personnel, nor are they members of a PRA.

It’s just the $55 associate membership. Not the full $135 one. And everyone pays it even PRA members. So it’s not for insurance. Which is fine - a $55 extra fee for a full week long competition is reasonable.

The ORA ran hundreds of competitions on CF bases before 2016 and non members were shooting in them albeit at a slightly higher ($20 extra) guest rate vs members. This was service rifle, precision, maybe others (I only did those two). The ORA made a policy change to guest fees in 2016 (I believe to get more members). But that’s not the way it works. A gun club doesn’t get more members by excluding guests it just doesn’t get guests. And guests are the best source of new members - I would say every member of any gun club was a guest in the beginning. Tried it out. Got hooked. Joined.

My concern is the sport has little chance to grow with a closed door members only policy. I live 15mins away so being a member - I could use the facilities enough to justify it. Someone from out of town - doubtful. I’m sure the DCRA or ORA heads are saying it’s for insurance I’m just not believing it. Or if it is true it can be changed back to the pre 2016 policy (higher fee for guests).

No. If you are already a PRA member with con-joint DCRA membership, then you don’t pay. Why would you pay again for the associate membership if you are already a member?
Call or let Kathy know, and she will quote you a different price.
