Why is it I'm ALWAYS begging you guys to come out and none of you ever show up! What a great shoot it was today and you cannot beat the range at Vokes for beauty and simply being badass!

Took the LRB out today with some handloads (41grs of IMR4895, Win case, #34 primer and 168SMK - 2.80 OAL) and it simply rocked from 200-300 meters. Don't ask how I did at 500 meters cuz I didn't have my comeups and it took me 6 shots to get it on paper

I won the 300meter deliberate stage (50 6v - basically a perfect score with 6 bullseyes) and the 200 to 300meter snap shoot. Gotta work on my positions - sitting and kneeling....prone I have that one down pat

If you guys are scared to look dumb or not do well there are LOTS of guys there to help you out and they tell you what the shoot will be at that stage....you cannot mess up! If you need help lemme know and I'll do my best.

AND I was the ONLY M14 variant out there and the ONLY guy shooting .308 Pretty cool to hear the booms in between the cracks of the .223 :D

Hear hear! :D

Hey, we still have a hard time peeling the black rifle owners (in the GTA... Greater Moronto Area) from their mirrors.

My challenge is the have them come out and stress their expensive rifle systems in competition(s). I hear ya , brother! :)

Barney

I hear him.. And soon as I get moved... I'll start going to whatever is available on the island or nearby....

I've missed shooting so much.. I need to relearn it's been a long time..

rdelliott:

We (www.ontariorifleassociation.org) just ran a Service Rifle clinic 01-02 May 2010, here at Amiens Range, Base Borden! And we will be in Ottawa this coming weekend, come on out and shoot with us, it's the new CFSAC Matches 1 to 4 with all the fun serials. Need at least 200 rds of .223/5.56mm for your boomstick!

Okay, I don't want to hijack this thread. Back to getting more people out so that they can use their black/green/battle rifles in their originally designed purpose! :D

Barney

There will be three (3) confirmed M14 shooters for the June 12-13 Connaught match. Hopefully we'll have a few more courageous individuals willing to master the beast.

Oldsmobiler, I hear you brother. Shooting SM since 2007, I've been tempted by the 5.56 guns but I stuck with my Norc.

I am starting to keep an eye out for the service rifle shoots now.

I missed the one at Amiens by a day, but met Hungry the next day at the Vintage Rifle shoot, where he got me curious about the service shoots.

What kind of kit does one need to attend a service rifle match?

I have an AR with 6 LAR mags and an EoTech, but thats about it. Does one need a sling, vest with mag pouches, etc, and how many rounds does one need to bring for an average shoot?

Cheers,

Kevin.

Yeah Barney! Way too many of them mirror commandos. I am just amazed on how much money they spend on tacticool gear and guns and not use them for service matches.:p

What? Afraid your ###y black rifle will get rain or mud on it?

Chickens!

Can't afford the fees or the ammo for a shoot like that :(

Alright lets look at the costs:

rifle - you probably got one
ammo - around 150 rounds per shoot - 300ish...I'm sure you have that many kicking around
BCRA membership - first timer its $30.00
Lower Mainland shoot - May 8 - $25.00
BC Championship shoot - June 5 - $25.00

Fun meter - off the peg!!!

I'm doing the basic costs here...it can go up if you get a paid marker ($35) but its pretty fun to mark targets in the butts and hear the bullets wizz over your head. Also you can do a walk back ($10) and that'll give you your scope comeups for each of the ranges from 100m to 500meters.

I've been shooting SR since 2004 and know the regulars pretty good. There were quite a few new guys yesterday and talking to them they ALL said that at first they were nervous but it was a LOT OF FUN!!!!

To shoot SR pay your BCRA dues, send in your entry fee early to get the discount and just show up. LISTEN carefully to the guys in charge and you'll be fine. Plus a lot of guys are so willing to help out the new guys. You are always paired up on the mound so just ask questions and there will be no need to worry.

To find out whats goin on look in the SERVICE RIFLE SECTION. All the info is there.

You need a rifle and two 5 round mags....thats it! For the deliberates (prone shooting) you get two sighters and then ten that count so technically it would be best to have 3 mags - one for the two sighters and two for the 10 shots that count. If you just shoot the one day its around 130 rounds. If you want to shoot the team shoot and soldiers match the next day I believe that you need another 50 rounds for that.

Dude I've been getting harassed for YEARS to come over to the black rifle side  I like being the weird guy and I love my rifle. Prone shooting I always do really well but the kneeling stuff I still need work.

Funny thing for the 500m rapids for some reason I lost track of time (45 seconds to dump 10 rounds into the 4 foot target) and the target started to come down. So for my last shot I let'er fly as it was coming down. They radioed the scores to us and asked if rocochets counted....yeah they do why? Your round hit the berm and went into the target sideways right in the bullseye! :ninja::D Pretty cool to see the shape of the bullet right in the target bullseye...wish I had my camera with me.

Ricochet shots were done on Mythbusters too. So you could probably get away with saying that the shot was planned :D.

I was going to go out to this, but then they changed the ATT rules regarding transporting restricted's to military range, and I said F-it.
