Looking to get into sr matches. are there any matches or clinics held in the eastern ontario area. Borden is way too far for me. Petawawa, cfb kingston?

Thanks just realized connaught is in ottawa area. Thats definetely doable. Now to find a suitable rifle. Was thinking about an xcr. What kind of magnification should i go with on an optic?

Hola el jefe!

The ORA (?) has a service rifle subsection, and there will be matches and practises throughout the shooting season for the nonmilitary teams.

The OSA (a deliberate play on words) is based at Keith Cunningham's range in Kinmount, ON. If you check the MILCUN site, you will see there are clinics and matches to prepare for the big show at Connaught. It is about half the distance between Ottawa and Borden. I've never been on one of Keith's clinics, but the number of Queen's Medalists he has coached speaks to the effectiveness of his methods.

If you go with a Restricted rifle, you will need to have an approved range destination for the transport papers. Guys have done well with Norinco's other products, the M14 and SKS. Not as much Look Cool Factor, but much cheaper than the other 90% of guys on the line. If you can work a stripper clip for another 5 shots, have at it.

Check the sticky at the top of this forum for ORA dates. As tiriaq said the OSA dates will be posted on the Milcun site soon.

As for rifle and optics choices, dig around this forum and you will get some ideas of what others are using. Most shoot ARs though. They just work well. It's not too difficult to get a short term ATT through the ORA for a match. I've never dealt with OSA but I would have to assume they are accommodating.

For a learning experience at OSA it would be entirely possible for a loaner AR with a quality optic to be made available.

Thanks for the help guys going to be doing alot of research now on equipment i dont have an rpal yet so no restricted stuff.
