service rifle Ottawa

The ORA will likely do what they did last year and run cash $$$ matches for non member reservists while leaving paid members in the cold.
I might as well have bought high capacity 10/22 mags instead of a full ORA membership last year.

Goto Minden with OSA run matches and then shoot NSCC in Ottawa. I was not a member but they let me shoot their matches. They know how to run a club and promote the shooting sports. If we get enough people going from Ottawa we can carpool.

I am from Montreal and I'm looking for a range in Ontario where I could go do some 3 gun or service rifle shooting. I don't mind spending money to be a member of that range wherever it is. I already travel 3 hours to go to Quebec city military base to do 3 gun.

Does anyone know where I can call to get some information? I have a Tavor X95, shotgun and a pistol 9mm. I'm safe and I have all my pro gun organisation membership card. If anyone is willing to help a fellow gunnie let me know. It would be very much appreciated.

First draft of OSA schedule is up. www.osacanada.ca

Yes, since the person who was supposed to liase and organize ORA member participation for Connaught ORA SR matches last year didn't, they didn't happen.
No worries this year, no ORA organized matches at Connaught.

Looking forward to getting out to SR with the OSA as a warm up/ ice breaker for NSCC.

I was looking at the calendar on the OSA site and I got a newbie question, what does LRRP mean? Long Range Rifle Practice? Also, how often do the precision rifle matches run? Thanks.

LRRP - correct. These book up very quickly, invariably fill up, so register early. Also note there is a Spotters' Clinic. Not something you see very often, and really important skills for someone shooting PR to develop.
I do not see PR matches.
The SR and Pistol practices and matches would be excellent for someone shooting SR and Pistol at NSCC. The OSA club SR Championship is just before NSCC.
Guests are welcome at OSA matches.
Not much shooting, but at the AR clinic, you will learn a LOT abut the rifle.
We are adding some Scenario based shooting this year.
Note that there is a snowshoe and shoot toward the end of March. Snowshoes might or might not be needed. Great opportunity to get out for some rifle/carbine/pistol practice. What you shoot depends how much you want to carry in.
TR = Tactical Rifle. ARs 100m and closer.
Note that functioning electronic hearing protection is mandatory for OSA/MilCun events.

The matches did happen! I feel like I am talking to Kelly Anne Conway about this. If anyone wants me to post pictures just say so and I will. They happened, but all ORA members, province wide, were shut out of them. The ORA broke their own guest policy rules and ran matches solely for guests. Pure cash grab, meanwhile they have the gall to ask me to pay another year's membership for what...to get had again? Fool me once...

Read my post again. Never said matches didn't happen. Said the person who was supposed to liase and organize ORA member participation didn't. Some people step up and assist, others sit back and ##### while they sit around and expect to be waited on.

If those members feel put out and have left the org...no loss. I will loose no sleep over their "suffering".

Well this is progress, someone from the ORA SR group finally admitting there were ORA matches in Ottawa. Guess I don't have to post the pictures anymore.

You've got the facts wrong. Not even 1% close. You've never asked what happened in Ottawa, and I know you don't 100% trust the guy who made up that cockamany story you are repeating. I can forgive you for getting bad information and basing your opinion on it, but then...

There are two kinds of gun owners. First, those that believe the more the merrier. Period. Even if you can't stand the person. More target shooters also protects our rights. It was the DCRA that saved the AR from being prohibited by going in front of Parliament and saying they had thousands of target shooters using them. That may come up again, and will the DCRA have the numbers to prove it?

And then you have the others, those that, in your words "lose no sleep" over the sufferings of others. Swiss Rifle gets prohib - hey I don't own one, who cares right? Who cares if this club shuts down, who cares, who cares? WRONG. You better care, and you should lose sleep.

Heck, I was told I couldn't even watch an ORA SR match at Connaught...

Yep, and everyone was told to not post pics on social media. It was always so hush hush. But some of them millenials love their facebook and instagram too much and that's how we found out those matches occurred.

People who care step up when it's time. Those who believe the more the merrier is true, step up. Those that look after their interests only....

Regardless of what happened last year, there is zero ORA involvement with SR at Connaught in 2017.
Talk to the NCRAA perhaps? You've been around the game for quite a while Sledge, perhaps you can offer to head things up and they can host SR events. Just something to consider.

People did step up. I personally booked time off work/life for all 4 matches including the whole Friday for target prep. There were others that did the same, that couldn't "unbook" this time later. People got F'd over here when everything was kyboshed. I completely re-arranged a vacation for the 2nd planned match and paid a massive penalty.

The plan did not also include the NCRRA taking over, which is only a club in name. I attempted to find them last year nonetheless and get that ball rolling. I found only a handful of target rifle shooters in this entire NCRRA org, and their numbers are dwindling too btw. They were using the range on the designated SR days because the SR club didn't really exist. In last 29yrs there was only one NCRRA SR competition at Connaught, 1990 I believe. Run by the late Al Hovi.

Just remembering this now I am wondering if my attempts to link up with the NCRRA set off the mental breakdown that resulted in all the 2016 matches being for guests only. Completely unacceptable, but it wouldn't surprise me now.

There remains a question whether members of the ORA SR in the Borden, GTA area, have some kind of obligation to speak up for the shooters in Eastern Ontario. Some 10k in guest fees banked in Ottawa last year are available to your group now. Can you really say "tough luck, see yah" and then use money made during competitions that we should have been allowed to attend? I don't care what happened with ORA money before, because I was free to attend as many or few competitions as I could. But what's never happened before was having competitions and not allowing ORA members to compete. Forget the fact they didn't even abide by their own guest policy, what gun club charges memberships, runs competitions, and doesn't let it's member compete? Nuts!

I understand there will be ORA SR matches at Borden this year. Total number/dates not confirmed yet to the best of my knowledge.

As far as I know, it's just as far a drive from Ottawa to Borden as from Borden to Ottawa. The former MD and competitors used to drag themselves to Connaught from TO to organize/run/compete in matches. Seems like competitors can come this other way if they want to.

No, not convenient by any stretch and I personally would not rejoin an org that held competitions that far away from where I was located (the current guest policy is inhibiting for sure, hope that goes away in the future)...but it is an option.

I know a few of us from Montreal, QC really enjoyed coming up and participate but looks like it's all gone to hell...
Sounds like a lot of big heads, too many egos and infighting are happening behind the scenes, people settling scores so to speak?
Maybe politics as well, trying to kill the sport for civilians?
So bizarre how divided we are...one thing for sure when they ban more guns we will all be together in that!
