Setting the value of a rifle?

Due to reasons beyond my control (no range beyond maybe 200 yards within a 5 hour drive), I have been seriously toying with the thought of selling my BR setup. My big problem is, I really don't know what it is worth.

I know it isn't anything overly special, however it is a decent gun. It is a Sako L579 single shot action, hooked up to a Schneider heavy barrel with a 1:7.5 twist, chambered in 6mmBR, target crown done by ATR. The trigger is a Canjar set trigger.

The entire thing is in a basic bench rest hardwood stock & has been bedded by Rick at ATR. It is topped off with a NightForce 8-32 BR scope in optilock rings and bases.

I also have Reddings dies and 200 pieces of once fired Lapua brass that might as well go with it. The rifle has 200 rounds through it by me, no more than 500 rounds total since being built.

Makes me sad to think about selling it. However it really is overkill for the 100 meter range that is within driving distance.

Any thoughts on what would be a fair value for the setup? It currently has a diamond plate aluminum case that keeps it safe as well which I would prefer to use to ship the rifle to it's new home.

Thanks for any and all advise on this one folks!

Chris

Custom guns are usually worth considerably less than you have spent on them.. sad to say.. :(

Unless you find someone who wishes to have just what you have, plan on losing a fair bit. Sell the scope separately will probably be your best bet...

...add it up... what did it cost you for the action, trigger, barrel, stock, scope, rings, dies, brass...? Ask 75% of that and see what happens... I have found selling the scope separately is usually better...

One way to maybe get closer to fair value for it is to try and get someone to trade a gun that you want + cash. That may help tip the scales in your favour value wise and help you come ahead over selling it outright. Hope that helps.

Better Idea

Take it to the range, show off how well it works and get someone hooked on the idea that " THIS IS THEE GUN TO OWN" sell it to em and let them look for a longer range, you might just find someone who has a 200 acre farm they wanna shoot targets on.

If that doesn't work i'll give ya a few hundred for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,, snicker:D

Current range membership:
Me, a coworker and another friend.

My friend is the only other long range shooter here. He is left handed. That leaves me & I made an offer to myself but found out I am a cheap bastard and tried to lowball myself. The conversation degraded past that point..

I put it up for sale here at the lower end of the spectrum that folks valued it at & threw in a bunch of extras. We shall see what happens.
