Hello, I'm just setting up a 44 rem mag Lyman sizing die in a dillion 550 reloader, the manual states bring the shell plate all the way up then screw down the die till it touches the shell plate and back off half the thickness of a dime, they don't specify which part of the shell plate the die should touch, if there talking about the indented part , ( where it would acually go when your using the press to resize ), then there isn't enough threads on the Lyman die to take it down that far, so I'm assuming they mean the very top of the shell holder, which would mean you would have to turn the shell plate a little when checking this. Anyone know the proper proceedure ?

RONNIE3;
I have limited experience with the 550, as I use a 650 & a 1050....
The setting you mention is meant for the "indented" part of the plate....
You will run into this with some dies when used in the Dillon presses....
I assume you mean that the set ring will not allow you to screw down the die ?
If so look for a thinner ring, this will solve it....
If this is not the case can you e mail me a picture ? john@marstar.ca
I may be able to help with the rings....
Regards John
