Last year I was fortunate to travel to Sevastopol and Yalta Ukraine and see the many areas of conflict from the Crimean War to WWII to say the least there are many reminders of the conflicts that took place in this region and for the most part I took about 4000 pictures and burned out a digital camera in the process . Well there are many great places in and around Sevastopol there is the Black Sea museum , Nicholava, Panorama , Sapun mountain, Maxum Gorky II and the Balaclava Crimean war museum. I have started to just get to these pictures So I will start with the Black Sea museum it is predominately a Russian navy museum so it contents date back to conflicts that predate the Crimean war . I will publish photos every couple of days and I will focus on WWII During the German siege of Sevastopol the city was almost completely destroyed when the Germans captured Sevastopol only seven building were still standing when the Germans finally captured this port . Still standing and damaged Nicholava Battery , Vladimirsky Cathedral , St Vladimir's church at Chersonese , Panorama as well as another battery at the harbor entrance to Sevastopol . During the siege the Germans brought in a railway gun that fired from Simferopol about 75 km to the NE. it shelled both Sevastopol and Maxum Gorky II gun battery at the south end of peninsula .

That Belgian 1889 carbine sure had an interesting life to end up in Sevastopol. Same with the two Gewehr 98ms.

The pile of Iron crosses is also interesting but what caught my eye was the huge Imperial German cross, was there any story behind that one ?

This is only one of the many museums that deal with the WWII
Artifacts . As for the German imperial cross it was recovered in Sevastopol after the city was liberated from the Germans . It is interesting to note that all the items were actually used or were recovered in Sevastopol at the end of the conflict there . There is another museum that I will post pictures from it has some interesting items

Nice pics! When I went backpacking through Europe in the 90's I saw some really cool museums.Belgium actually has a couple really nice tank museums, and let's not forget the Deutsche museum in Munich!

Nicholav battery is one of two surviving gun battery's that were built prior to the Crimean war the Sheremetiyev brothers purchased this derelict battery about 3 yrs ago and went about restoring the interior and left much of the small arms and artillery damage on the exterior intact the building was painted the same color as it was during WWII. So we will will start from there.

The walls are about 2 meters thick and there is some evidence of damage from direct fire on the inside .
When we entered the Museum we had the museums currator Daniel Berjistky give us an unrestricted tour of the museum . They are planning on installing non glare glass on all the cases in the future
The Museum has many uniforms from the Crimean War and from the Battle of Sevastopol but I will restrict the photos to WWII
