I think the author of that article needs to read Gary James Shelton's books, then he might have a clue about the causes of bear attacks.

Lots of bear inflicted insomnia this year. A local fellow here found himself in close proximity to a polar bear, which when it approached him he dissuaded by swatting it in the face with his dog leash! When the bear backed off, he started to back away as he frantically searched for the cell phone to call the DNR guy. Sure enough, while backing away, he stumbled and fell on his back, which immediately brought the bear back to him. A moment later the bear patrol guys were on the scene and cracker shelled the bear away.

Now as bad as I think bear spray is as a primary line of defense, it beats a leash any day. As for me I'll stick to packing a gun.

So I was thinking of getting a .50 Beowulf AR for bear defense... Either that or a .50AE DEagle, That should blast those suckers!!!! What do I need to be able to carry those?

All of these stories of bear attacks. In Southern Alberta we've had our share too. Seems that one of the local campgrounds has been shut down to tenters because of overly curious and hungry bears.

You need to move to Alaska... both are restricted in Canada.

There's an interesting story on EdmontonSun.com, about a 'Killer' grizzly in Banff. A 600lb male grizzly has a penchant for killing and eating black bears.

"Conservationists" make a big deal about events like this, but normal and not unusual activity, but then they are also willfully blind to the fact that Grizzly boars kill and eat cubs of their own kind, one of the prime mortality causes for the species. Sow around Canmore had all three of her cubs killed by a boar, just a little side note to closing the area she was frequenting.
