This gun does not have it's proper scope which is 638-C. Therefore, I have it fitted at present with 626-C, which is a Mk 2. Naturally looking for the original in Angels matching service.

My other 71L is matching, but is dated 1945 and has scope 690-C., another Mk 2. So I like to think that I am pretty frickin' close with 626-C for the time being :)

5 of my other LB snipers are 90L's, of which 3 are all matching.
my 74L tp rifle is all matching and has been vetted by the gunnutier panel :)

In a shameless commercial, looking for a 68L and an 80L to go with my C67 scope...… Buhler, Buhler Buhler???

My 71L###x with C No.32 Mk.3 scope is not a replacement scope. It is the Small Arms Limited factory original one and is all matching. Clive Law did write that MOST (but not all) of the 71L###x were fitted with C No.32 Mk.2 scopes. Remember that most Canadian made No.4 Mk.I* (T) sniping equipments were going direct to the British Army and in 1944-1945 most were being assembked concurrently, mostly for the same customer.

The late Clive Law in his book Without Warning mentioned several serial number batches for No.4 Mk.I* (T) sniper rifles i.e. 71L###x, 74L###x, 80L8### and 90L8###. He omitted the 68L###x batch. When I questioned him about it, he was aware of some in that number range but he had chosen, for reasons of his own, to not include this range. in my res easer has database I have recorded a number of the 68L###x sniper rifles.

I have a No.4 Mk.I* (T) from every one of those serial number batches plus one of the experimental Long Branch Scout Sniper Rifles with experimental R.E.L. Gimbal scope.

That is nice, but not really true.

71L block rifles are fitted with MkI, MkIA and MkII scopes.

Colin has a 71L fitted with a replacement Mk3 scope.

A replacement scope is not the one it had initially, so not germaine to the conversation. At the end of the article, the author does admit that there are going to be mistakes found in the piece. The situation with REL's deliveries makes it clear how much trouble they were causing at LB trying to make their contract requirements, so one of three types of scope makes sense.
