It has the hinged front barrel band, the early front sight protector ears and it is a mk1 not a mk1* so it has the push button bolt release.

What do you male of the Op's serial number? op states it reads "1L481" and that's what i see in his picture. would be interesting to see what is stamped on the bolt?

Okay, had my coffee, some waffles, a few pupperoni stix and now sipping on a glass of lemonade.

Here are additional pix I made while my crutches were supporting me. Good news, is I have lost 30 pounds walking around on a misdiagnosed broken leg.
Although I am told 12 of the pounds were shed cutting off my Ron Jeremy moustache :puke:

It tis 1L481 and the carpet matches the drapes.... aka the bolt is stamped 1L481:bigHug:

So next question for dummies like me is.....

When/and at what serial number did they stop using the wasp front sights and the hinged front bands?

The wasp sight on this on is a brit, and came off a 41 brit sniper for this exercise, and which will go back on the 41 unless colin prys it out of my cold dead hands,
or trades me his 80L clone.....

I don't think there is a definite answer for that!

I have seen examples that have the early parts past the 6000-7000 range and then have seen examples made prior that have the later parts.....this is all assuming that no one had swapped parts around which is very possible. Early hinged bands and the wasp sight protectors were discontinued at different times as well. You know the old theory....hand reached in the assembly parts bin and whatever came out....that being said I would think on the production line as far as the manufacturing of the individual parts, once they stopped producing the early parts and changed the tooling over to produce the later style that was it. Here is a 41 with early hinged band but lacking early wasp sight protector. Yeah this is a beauty.......
