In Little Syria.
Moved my second focal plane Cabelas Covenant 7 scope, 3x to 21x, to my better target .22 LR and it seems that when sighted in to a rough 50 metres (I want to keep it useful for hunting and pest control), the elevation turret is pegged to the left and will adjust nowhere but 'UP.' This is with a laser bore sight.

I don't know if this will pose a problem in the future- I'm too tired to work it out mentally- but is there anything that can be done about it?
 
I would think you want to shim your rear base up and to the left, or the front base in opposite direction - I think?? And, I lost trust in bore sighting some time ago - too many wonky things can happen within the barrel and at the muzzle - shots on targets count - bore sighter is "guesstimate" ... I do not know about that scope - but many scopes being "pegged" to one side or another, basically stops any up or down movement - think a "tube within a tube".

It wouldn't reduce the apparent sight reticle elevation in one direction, it wouldn't turn any further 'down', it had reached the limit of its adjustment ability in that direction, it would go no further.

Anyway, problem will be solved as per the above.
 
1) How accurate is your bore-sighter ? 2) Did you try just 'real' bore sighting ? 3) Are all your scope mounts etc snug?
I have one of those barrel things and it's fussy to get an accurate Z. And I've has mounts work loose and not hold the scope on Z.

It produces the usual accuracy from such devices, gets shots on paper at 50 m. That's all I count on it for and so am never disappointed. I use a Wheeler torque wrench to set all the mounting bolts.
 
Noting 'miner's post, if you have 2-piece bases you shouldn't shim much 'cause it could put tension on your tube and interfere with the crosshairs. One-piece base can be shimmed all you wish.
 
Shimming - Post #8 is mostly correct - but I have managed to bend one piece bases, by shimming just one end of them. But, great point about shimming bases - often need to create a taper of some sort - epoxy (?) - to keep the top faces of the bases perfectly in the same plane to each other.
