Sg 542 worth the money compared to m14 or other 308 battle rifles ?

If you were called out to protect your country against a foreign enemy would you trust your life with the sg 542 or would you take the m14 or some other rifle ? Is the sg just a cool looking new toy - "new to us" or is it a rifle that we should seriously consider as top of the line quality and worth taking into harsh conditions and heavy use ? 3000$ IMO it should be able to handle -40 and heavy use and not crumble. The m14 seems to me to be much more rugged and trustworthy in that application but I could be wrong and I would love to hear what you all has to say. Sg 542 sg 540 solid reliable would use to defend country and home with or is it just a cool looking good shooting rifle you bring to the range to have people say .... Cool rifle ? By the way I do really like it it is a very hot item at the moment but if I'm spending 3000$ I want to know if I can trust it and since no one ! Seems to be giving any reviews solid reviews I think we need to discuss this rifle more.

I must admit that at one point I was ready to buy a SG. I don't have any first hand review for you but from what I've read it's not that accurate. Also the cost of mags is high and parts availability is a concern. For the kind of money you want to spend and the reliability your looking for , then I would suggest a AR10 or a M14

^^^I agree with the m14 being a more safe bet history and present day will vouche for that. But I could be wrong and invite anyone with information on the sg rilfes to come and share because we need your input.

Yes, I'd trust it to work.

Top of the line quality? No. Fit and finish are to be desired.

It was however designed for hard conditions of every kind and hard use, and in this area it does well. -40 and heavy use should be of no issue as this is really one of the areas the rifle was designed for.

Sg 542 sg 540 solid reliable

Absolutely. There are reports of some being in military use for the past 40 years and still in service. These are the Manurhin produced rifles and not FAMAE, so different materials can be used or may be an issue, but the design is solid.

Seems to be giving any reviews solid reviews I think we need to discuss this rifle more.

We were supposed to have a full on vid review up by now but our recent computer crash has delayed that. What it comes down to is, would I recommend this rifle? The answer is yes.

Also the cost of mags is high and parts availability is a concern.

This is the main downside right now.
